Master switch should be off not on, secure bus. Never drive with door open, use first gear when crossing over/up track then after 100ft continue with gear in drive and turn off hazards.

If you have a bus equipped with a noise suppression switch turn it on to silence any heater fans etc., helps you hear any trains which might be coming. I see that it was open but, make sure your driver's window is fully opened. As pointed out already in the comments, NEVER drive with an open service door & always secure the bus.

In NJ 2025 at least Hazards come on 200 foot before the RR tracks. Master switch should be off when approaching RR tracks hazards on.
Stop 15-50 feet before tracks. Secure the bus open door and window look and listen for trains. Pull ahead turn off hazards when crossing the tracks.

I actually failed my test and the instructor told me to never cross the tracks with the door open… you are setting people up for failure

You are not to suppose to drive with the door open …. And you did not stop and put your brake and neutral

I wanted to be a school bus driver so bad, I got my CLP and pass the general knowledge exam was hired by the school transportation system and took the week class passed bad exam and then the next day I had bus training parking the bus backwards, the first time I was too far from the cones the second time I was too close to the cones and then the instructor wanted me to go out and heavy traffic with a few of the other students on the bus it was extremely difficult My first time I went over three curbs I was too close to the white lion and then I realized this is not for me and I quit, everybody else that drove the bus drove it perfectly the first time and I was the one going over curbs so I guess I'm not cut out to be a school bus driver, too bad...

I know this is very late but I'm trying to become a school bus driver and I know some things he did very wrong.
1. You do not ever leave the door open while you're crossing the railroad. You always make sure to close the door before you cross the railroad. Otherwise, you're setting up people for disaster.
2. I know for a matter of fact. You do not put the bus in neutral at all when you are dropping off and picking up because if you let go of the service break, the bus will start rolling. You always put the bus in park.
3. And I know this, for a matter of fact, that you do not hunk the horn and students if there's a hazard on the left side because it scares them and freaks them out. What you want to do instead is wave your hand and yell out, saying, "Hey, stop, don't go over. There's hazardous material over there." but correct me if I'm wrong.
4. And it looks like from my point of view that he did not secure the bus correctly.
He should really get retrained on driving a bus and knowing how to drive a bus in these situations

I think the rules have changed. You have turn your off so it doesn't activate the stop sign and stop arm. You also have to close the door before you cross the track. Don't forget to down shift before you drive through the track.

Amber lights should be on 300 feet before the drop off/ pick up location, not at least 100 ft. THIS GUY WILL MAKE YOU FAIL TERRIBLY. THIS VIDEO SHOULD BE REPORTED
