1987: Virgin CD - CDV 2040

Edgar Froese recorded his second solo album, Epsilon In Malaysian Pale after returning from Tangerine Dream's Australian tour 1975. Obviously the music reflects his impressions of south-eastern Asia and Australia. According to Edgar Froese, "Epsilon" was the synonym for a person who is completely enveloped by his environment, and the "Pale" stood for the ever-present heavy humidity.

Epsilon In Malaysian Pale was recorded in Berlin, Cologne, Bonn and Hamburg. The main instrument was the Mellotron for which Edgar Froese had recorded various tape segments in London, but also the VCS 3 synthsiser, modified organs and modular synthesiser have been used.

David Bowie brought me here... soundtrack of his life during the Berlin years, he said. The man had good taste.

An incredibly fine solo album from Edgar. Overshadowed some might say by the other giant albums. However, it has a sound that is unique, almost orchestral, along with the mighty presence of the Mellotron. Of course, Maroubra Bay is the stand out track. This album is one of my personal favourites. Been a Tangerine Dream listener since first hearing Phaedra on the late night John Peel radio show on BBC Radio (UK) 40+ years ago.

This album is a total mastepiece, for me it's just as good as the best works of Tangerine Dream, almost as good as Rubycon and Phaedra for sure! I love the otherworldy sounds that only Edgar Froese can create!

I was born in the 80s, so I wasn't alive during the glorious era of the 1970s..

But because of youtube, I have been able to really explore all the wonderful sounds from that time period. This 70s bender I'm on keeps bringing me to new and wonderful places.

This is one of the best ambient/synth albums I have listened to so far. Something tells me I'm going to be returning to this one a lot...

A group of us were camped out one night, just outside the caves in Cheddar, Somerset, back in the 1990's. Absolutely pitch black night apart from the campfire, with this playing and the odd doobie going around, every once in a while. Times when you were young, when you weren't especially going anywhere, but all the happier for it, before you really took the surf board out into life's ocean of experience...

RIP Edgar. Without a doubt one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century. My memory of listening to this clasic while hiking in the mist of Mt Kinabalu in Malaysia will remain with me forever

Another old guy who bought this in vinyl in 1975. Thank you Richard John for putting it on YouTube.

It's that Mellotron sound that caught my attention and love for this album :)

The work of a composer lives from the gaze that is given to it. It is not limited to what it is, nor to the one who produced it, it is also made by the one who hears it. Music, painting are a space of questioning and meditation where the senses that we attribute to it can come and be done and be undone at any time✨

Immenso Froese🎼❤️👍

Reading the detail on this album from Voices in the net, you come to appreciate the GENIOUS in the man. He recorded it over 3 days in between all his other commitments with the group including touring.
