Great example with books! I tried to explain this type of rotation to my non-medical sister, over the phone, preparing for her cervical surgery. I finally told her to imagine double stuffed Oreo cookies - stacked, squeezed on one side and then slightly rotated - as a visual example! As a Kindergarten Teacher, it was a perfect visual example for her!

Finally understand why rotation does not cause gapping in the right facet joints! That's been bugging me so much, just in time for my test too!

Can a person have a positive Spurlings on both sides ?

Don’t forget, even though the closing of the foramen will potentially cause a pinching of the nerve root, the release of the myofascial tension will also release the tension of the nerve downstream. This may allow a decrease in pain.

Amazing video thank you. considering these physiological movements of the cervical spine If someone presents with pain on extension and slight pain on rotation (no pain on lat flexion) would this suggest the compression to be more posterior rather than facet joint?

Thanks for all your work. Your videos have been an essential part of my PTA program. Can I request a video on biomechanics of the lumbar spine? Thanks again!

What happens at the left C7/T1 facet joint under lateral flexion? Does it open up much? If you want to open up the C7/T1 facet, do you have to push down on the shoulder and then do the right lateral flexion? Thanks!

Hello, so does that mean with say degenerative issues, on rotation for eg to the right, pain will be felt on the left as it compresses on rotation?

Hi, can I ask you to explain about type 1 and 2 mechanics?

What about the upper cervical motions!?
Not explained well.
