Driving on the Autobahn for the First time..as an American.

At least once a day I find myself getting a little bit of road rage as I watch drivers in the United States make terrible driving decisions. Tailgate, no blinker, running stop signs - you name it we have it. However across the pond I found none of these things in the heart of driving discipline - Germany. The Autobahn is an incredible road system where the pavement is perfect, and the drivers are also near perfect. We also head to the Eagle's Nest in Austria, and the amazing Red Bull Hangar 7! Thank you for watching and have a great day!

210 km/h, you should be in the right lane to let the fast cars pass.

You know you're in germany when you're cruising at 200km/h on the Autobahn, but there are cars behind you flashing their lights because you're too slow.

Well i am german and you also have to change the lane! Don`t stay on the left lane for so long... if i am coming from behind with ~240kmh i have to break for you...

It scares the shit out of me when I see Americans driving around on German Highways without any practice on such high speeds and driving licenses made in rural areas with a 25mph speed limit.

Another thing that I noticed that you were constantly driving in the passing lane, this is a big NO NO in Germany. It is only used for passing cars in the middle lane. Once you have passed the cars in the middle lane, move over and if there is room in the slow lane get over there as well. This is the law here!

"The streets here are very skinny compared to the US.." Everything and everybody is very skinny compared to the US.

Important david. In europe dont be driving in left lane. Only if your driving fast og overtake the car in front of you. Be in right lane allways. Trust me :)

It's illegal to pass on the right and it's also illegal to stay in the left lane if you aren't overtaking. Pass and get back into the right lane! Or you might find a 270 mph Swiss Koenigsegg worth over 7 million in your back seat before you can blink. If one got in my back seat I'd be keeping it, a few scratches won't matter..

Lane discipline in Germany is fantastic. There’s no question that the Germans are much better drivers than Americans. End of story. Your content lately is lit!

I have been doing 200 kmh with my Audi A3...
but yeah driving fast comes quite natural on the german Autobahn.

Most important: allways keep the allowed speed and keep a save distance. (tailgateing is a high fined crime in Germany)
Always use your turn signals, while changing lanes (it's not for you, but the others on the road).

Always adapt your speed to the circumstances:
Ask yourself: Is there much trafic?, how are other drivers behaving? are there any crazy/insecure/untrained drivers, with slow reactions (high risk drivers)? how is the weather? how far in front of you you can see (breakingdistance is quite long), are there curves ahead you can't see well around (seldom on the autobahn, but still).
ALWAYS: keep as right as possible! only go left to pass a slower car on your lane. check your back mirror for faster ones while changeing lanes and when on leftest lane (on the leftest lane you have to change back to the right lane, if someone faster then you comes!

Dont drive fast if all lanes in front of you are filled, keep distance.
On a guod day you have the Autobahn practically for your self, on other days, there won't be a possibility to drive fast. don't push it, just because you want to drive fast.

keeping that in mind and you gonna have fun on the Autobahn.

As a german, all I see is you driving a sportscar at casual speed, I bet you even got overtaken by a few cars lol

As someone who has lived in the Netherlands for the first 25 years of his life I can tell you Americans as a rule can't drive. And it is all because of driver education. The lack of proper driver education creates the drivers you have in the US. If you can get your license by driving around in a 30mph residential area and parallel parking you have an issue. Simple concepts as move over after passing is lost, and looking further ahead than the car in front of you? Forget about that. And then there is the phone usage that turns idiots into absolute morons. But, everyone that watches this channel has a passion for driving, speed and having fun with cars. As such they exhibit none of those crap traits. So this rant? Will get a lot of nods but falls short of reaching those that it should reach.

ANYWAY

Those sights... It makes me remember all those vacations I have had with my parents. And subsequently it makes me realize that it has been over a year since I have seen my family. Bitter sweet I suppose. Can't wait for the next episode!

Did you ever use the right sight of the autobahn. Didn`t see that in your video. Your seating position is wrong and only looking cool. When you are in stress, your shoulders are no more touching the seat.Your arms are stretched to much, so you can´t handle the steering wheel in case of emergency. Thanks for the documentation What when you get in drouble, your are not able to react in a propper way. When you double the speed your holdingway is 4 times longer. And you ride behind a porsche at 200kmh with about 25 m. Do you know how long your brakingway is at 200kmh, not counting the time to react on a situation. How to figure that out while on the road? No good behavior. I love driving fast when possible with tops over 240kmh. I do that for almost 25 years, without an accident. How comes that? I learned from Pros and done alot of training courses. This would be a good experience for you. 300kmh on a straight road is what everybody can, if you got the car. Sorry that critic. You survived. So far so good, nobody hurt, nobody crying. I know you can do better!

I know the views may not show it, But honestly David, these are some of my favorite videos of yours. I get to just sit down, and enjoy peeping in on your life for 10 minutes. <3

We suck at driving because of massive roads and a poor drivers ed program in places like Finland they require skid pad training and other small fast maneuvers so drivers actually feel comfortable behind the wheel

The reason the Europeans have smooth roads, is because of a word that gives Americans a heart attack: it's called "TAX"

But if your country doesn't spent 985 BILLION Dollar (each year) on military stuff, your roads could be just as smooth as the European
government could add a small tax on fuel, let's say 25 cents a gallon, and if they really put that tax money on the maintenance of the roads, again, smooth roads.

Watching this as an european is so confusing. There is so much wrong info in the video.

And the American in a Ferrari does not leave enough of a gap when following the Porsche at high speed. Yet, he mentions the discipline of others. It's called driver education. Getting your license in Germany or Switzerland is expensive and there a lot of rules to learn and follow. That's why it works.
It would work in the states as well if you would have proper driving education and stricter rules.

your kind of driving is a pain in the butt for everyone else. when not overtaking you are supposed to drive right hand in GER. in fact you have to by law.

people take driving differently when you pay 1500-2000 dollars for a license meanwhile in Virginia i payed 100 dollars and we don't have the same level of driver training .i miss the autobahn need to rent something faster next time .
