I tried the S30 projection attachment with an AD200 with the round head. I put the SA-P with a gobo in it in one of the new S2 brackets and put the Ad200 in an S-Type bracket on a stand immediately behind it. The round head modeling light is only just bright enough to focus the gobo. However the flash works fine. The image isn't as sharp as when using the S30 but that may be because I haven't got the focus quite right.

I would imagine somebody with a 3D printer could make an adapter that fitted the SA-P on the round head. Ideally Godox would make a dedicated round head with a mounting fitment for the S30 attachments, a more powerful LED, a lens rather than the diffuser and an reflector optimised for the SA-P. I would have thought product photographers would snap them up.

I’m sure Sharpen has figured it out by now, but for anyone that comes across this video now 3 years later, the gobo/cookie holder has two half-circle notches that allow you to unscrew a clamping ring. Just remove that ring, drop the gobo in and screw the clamping ring down to hold it in place. A few more seconds of work, but more secure than just setting the gobo in the recess on the outside of the holder.

Also, thanks for showing how where the gel goes. Hopefully it doesn’t melt or distort with my VL150ii

What an insanely specific setup. Seems like it’ll be one of those pieces people buy and use once a year

I can't WAIT😁to see if the [much less expensive] projection attachment, iris, framing shutters, & gobo holder will fit my Dedolight😊

This is basically just a gobo (or cookie as you called it) projector that people use to light wedding and entertainment spaces. It just has a couple of added features (battery power, for example) to adapt it to photo or video use.
The gobos themselves are right out of a beginner gobo projector pack. I used to work for a rental house that rented these to wedding planners and such. It's essentially just a baby ellipsoidal fixture. Weird.

One other thing...

It's hard to tell from the photographs but it looks like the cord that fits the Sony battery holder has a D-Tap connector. If so you could fit a V-Mount battery and get 14.4V to the light which should give you nearly full power (mains adapter is nominally a 15V supply.

Interestink - I made a gobo projector using an slr film camera with a busted shutter & a cheap, but powerful speedlight.
Hoiked the back off the camera, removed/destroyed the shutter mechanism & mounted camera & speedlight on an ebay flash bracket.
The gobos are printed on A4 projection film, cut up & stuck to 12"x2" strips of 4mm ply with 'windows' to fit 35mm film frames (cut with a morticer'.
Works a treat, using 2 redundant Yongnuo transievers, with my Godox strobes...

Haven't used it in anger yet but come the cold, wet winter nights there'll be all manner of flashing lights from my shed/studio 😁

Mine just arrived, still waiting for the SA-P though. Looks pretty good, pity it doesn't come with a case. The battery connection cable isn't a D Tap connector so my hope to be able to run it full power on a V-Lock battery won't work. The head is exactly the same size as the AD200 Round Head/V1. The gel holders and grid from the AK-R1 kit will fit behind the barn doors. I do hope Godox make an adapter for the Round Head/V1 so that we can use the SA_P with them (an AD400Pro adapter would be fun too). If Godox don't make an adapter it's a project for somebody with a 3D printer.

Wish to have this projection system at godox ad 600pro and qt 600 m2 flash system which I own .. pixapro have the same projection system for flashes but not available at India. So hopefully godox will come out with the flash compatibility of theirs projection system.

They should make the projector have a bowens mount. Put a bowens mount on the light as well.

Starting at $250 on Adorama, wow. I hope there will be a kit. Is Clar now Flashpoint or is it just the constant led brand name? I anyone can, I bet Robert can, rig it to look like a window light or skylight, and then add the ad400/ad200/ad600. That would be an awesome followup to see how they all mix together.

this is a great review ofthe type of setup im considering but your mention of poor power output makes me wonder were you able to determine what sort of ISO is needed here as my dated canon 700d gets noisy from 400 ISO - if something like 5.6 at 1/60 at iso 400 is realistic then maybe could work for me without also upgrading to a better camera

love this!! i made Cookies for my schools projector light. I laser cut them at work. If you are looking into having them made, you may want to also look into companies that have turret punch machines.
thanks for the video!

Nice video, Robert. Will be interesting to see how the s30 will compete with the Aputure mini 20d but the projector seems to be a strong plus for the s30.
I have seen (IBC2019) that they will have a 150/300w COB Led coming as well … but when? :/

Dynalite and Comet (2 "blasts from the past"😁, lol) had made what they called "optical snoot"(s) for their studio flash heads, & even now, Broncolor & Profoto make similar things for certain of their flash heads
