FNIRSI HRM-10 Battery Internal Resistance Tester Review

I take a close look at the FNIRSI HRM-10 Internal Resistance Meter, I check its user interface, test its accuracy compared to my reference standards and other instruments.

I just ordered one with a $21 upgrade to get pogo's, clip leads and a battery clip for cell testing.
I noticed on the advertising literature there is a software typo for Pass/Fail on the screen with fail spelled as Fall. It may have also been an artwork error, I won't know until it arrives.
Cheers, great review again.

I have one of these units and I like it. My application is testing UPS battery packs without removing them from the unit and disassembling them. Most methods of testing AGM batteries require breaking them down to their 12V packs.

I can test 24V, 48V, and 72V packs in most UPS units by just removing the front panel cover and disconnecting the main battery lead. Jam these probes in the connector and within seconds getting a reading.

For instance i have three APC units with 24V internal batteries comprised of two 12V 9AH batteries. 44mOhm, 70mOhm, and 94mOhm.

I also have two Liebert GXT3 units with 48V packs comprised by smaller 12V 5Ah batteries: 160mOhm & 250mOhm. I doubt 250mOhm will support the 500VA rating of the and will crash soon after the power goes out.

Once you get a baseline on what newly installed packs or what constituent batteries should measure, then I can maybe set the three "binning" presets.

The 4-pin aviation plug is actually easy to obtain. I have yet to build my own custom cables but the supplied croc-tips (alligator) clips aren't good for large or small connections.

Couldn't keep the probes apart while trying to test individual cells. It helped when I added a small piece of heat shrink tubing to one side of each clip - a piece of tape should work too. Gonna check for accessory probes now, thanks.

Fnirsi now have a pogo pin lead option for this instrument

FNIRSI now have two new attachments. One does AAA to 18650 cells. Another has pogo probes.

Good video....can you determine if a battery is good or bad just by measuring its internal resistance?

would it be a tad brighter with the plastic protective cover removed?

The button/pin hole could be the STM32 boot0 or boot1 mode option, same as the header links on your BluePill STM32 boards

A pogo pin lead for the FNIRSI HRM-10 would be awesome. I'm using the HRM-10 for measuring the internal resistance of Lithium batteries like 18650/21700 etc and the included clips are awkward to use.

Instead of 0 for impedance greater than 200 ohms, it should report over limit. Showing zero is very misleading and can lead to improper conclusions.

Hi
Its a great tool for its price.
Testet very accurate.
Who can tell me the pinout of the GX12 connector ? Source, Sense ? I am not shure about it.
Thankx

The test lead connector is the issue for me. It should be four 0.75 inch spaced center banana jacks.
I have a potential use where the kelvin clip would be useful for positive, and a pogo pin probe for the negative. I also have a kelvin battery fixture. All my Kelvin probes and fixtures have banana plugs. If it had the four banana jacks I would buy it.

Amazing that such a low cost piece of gear has that calibration built in. It's unfortunate they chose that kind of test lead connection.

Glad I don't have OCD - leaving the screen cover on the whole time is probably going to send someone over the edge.

The resistance (ESR) is the difference between off load and on load. At 8:42 the voltage it reads momentarily is the off load voltage and it obviously goes to zero volts under load. i.e. battery = buggered!

Metal plates a heat sink for the lithium battery when charging.

go to factory reset in the menu to see the firmware version.

I don't know where you guys see STM32. 16:42 you can clearly see it is not STM32. Some chinese ARM MCU probably. Can't read letters very well.

You find the firmware version in. "factory default"
Im at 62% brightness, and that is more than enough for my usecases [FW 0.4] but its likely the studio light that is taking its toe and why it seem dimm.
On my unit, Its only in time-settings you have opposite dialing..
all other seem to be right side up, , also sorting.,
Doesn't look like you can sort passive components like resistors... as it will say fail even if you adjust voltage to 0..
Its worth noting it is an FW upgradeable product, though latest official listed FW is 0.3 (as far as I can tell) so lower then the FW 0.4 they are shipping with
But it does cater a small hope they can optimise the product down the line, though usually they dont.
Thx for the vid.

Do they sell the accessories separately? I already have the standard HRM 10
