Built in 1722, this is the oldest surviving structure in New Orleans. Though not actually the oldest bar in America, it’s ranked as ONE of the oldest. The pirate, Jean Lafitte, and his brother used this location as a base of operations for their smuggling business starting in 1772.

The guy smoking a cigarette at the end made me laugh! His face looked like he was thinking, " These people are crazy!"

The French Quarter is nuts. Mom stayed down there last week for business. She said it was amazing.

Nice video! The building is indeed old - 1722 is only 4 years after the founding of New Orleans and the Lafitte brothers are probably history's more well-known privateers. Thank you for highlighting this New Orleans treasure! Check out the celebrity photos inside - word has it that all these celebrities have (or had) a residence in New Orleans at one time - it's said to be a requirement for the photo to be placed!

I came here after I heard a song by a band called the squirrel nut zippers a big band swing act, and the title of the track is "Evening At Lafitte's" from their record "Perennial Favorites" interesting to know that this structure exists and hearing about it's history is a definite delight :) It's cool to think that one of my bands I'm a big fan of came to this bar and hung out then were later inspired to write some music about it considering the vast influence New Orleans has had on the music scene across the world. Definitely a treasure indeed. Cheers for the informative video @NOLADEEJ

I went to New Orleans for a few days in November. Highly recommend this time of year as it was cool enough to be outside, breezy at night and the crowds were quite low. It was also a few days away from Thanksgiving so we watched the city going from Halloween to all the Christmas decorations being slowly put up as we were walking around the city. This was my favorite bar in town while we visited so much we went twice

Sorry, LFBSS, but the White Horse Tavern in Newport, Rhode Island, is the oldest surviving bar in the country, dating back to the mid 1600's. It's still there and still a tavern.

The bar has been in place since only 1948, the building is old but the bar itself is relatively modern.
