Often referred to as the princess of pop, Britney Spears is one of the most recognizable celebrities of all time. Rising to stardom in the late 90s, Britney’s first two albums “Baby one more time” and “Oops I did it again” were international hits that catalyzed the success of the growing teen pop market. In this first installment of Britney Spears Series, we are going to be discussing Britney’s rapid ascension in the 90s, her attempts at a holy image, as well as the beginning of her relationship to the ruthless and relentless media.

i was a kid when she came out with baby one more time but seeing her all over magazines... even in eastern europe where i grew up, her music videos were playing everywhere. it really felt like she was someone one of a kind, she changed how the world see popstars and to me, there's BB and AB - before Britney and after Britney.

Hearing those responses to the VMA performance was so sad. You could tell that she was hurting. She tried to liberate herself like any other person coming into adulthood. Yet people treated it as if it was a crime. She helped pave the way for the new girls!

I was young at the time but I remember that 2000 vma performance and it was a BIG deal. Everybody basically thought she was naked (which she wasn’t) and nobody had done anything that daring in live TV, except probably Madonna.

Britney is the blueprint for all these new pop girls. There would be no Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and all the other ones if it wasn’t for Britney.
