To do this live infront of a worldwide audience of tens of millions takes a huge amount of confidence and self-belief.

James Morrison is terrifyingly good at playing brass instruments.

Don’t you just hate when you play everything an octave higher with flawless, crisp, perfect tone?

I love how this score is so useful for a beginner like me! I'll get to practicing

I don’t play trumpet but just how it sounds I can assume it’s very difficult

The national anthem performance that follows this fanfare is *amazing*

Yep, James Morrison is trained to hit the G6 to A6, and even higher, just like Arturo Sandoval.

Any novice composer, do NOT expect even first chair trumpet players to hit these notes comfortably, as there is a significant risk of the notes going out of tune.

A good film score to listen to that has these notes is from The Incredibles, scored by Michael Giacchino. These trumpet players are the top-tier.

This can be done, G6 and higher, but there are few who can do so without quick burnouts and notes going out of tune.

as a trumpet player I can confirm he's playing a trumpet.

Only trumpet players know how hard that is. That level of sound quality on those notes for that period of time is ridiculous.

Wow James Morrison has really lived an eventful life

I can’t even comprehend how much time he had to put into the trumpet to even be able to do that, none the less at a huge event

I love how whe nit switches to swing everyone's posture goes from uptight and formal to relaxed and lazy which beautifully illustrates that change in rhythm

Typical Australians reading a tuba score upside down and playing it on the trumpet

This makes perfect sense.
In early modern olympics they had competitions in poetry and architecture.
But in the classic olympics they had competitions for heralds and trumpeters. Coming full circle.

I had the pleasure of meeting Morrison backstage at one of the Salvation Army Christmas Gift concerts (I was singing as part of the choir) and he was one of the nicest performers I've ever met, happy to chat too, we talked for a good 30 minutes about composition before he had to go.
And believe me when I say you cannot believe the projection bouncing from stage side of Hamer Hall to the seats and then back again to the bass section of the choir about 1.5 seconds after he initially played it. No mic or accompaniment and this man can fill a hall for sure.

An AMAZING SOLUTE to the ATHLETES....not to the self-indulgent suits that walked-in.
