My grandmother used to keep their potatoes in the cellar at the bottom of the stairs. It was dark in that cellar. It had one light bulb not near the potatoes. When I was about 6 years old grandma sent me down cellar to get her some more potatoes. I was scared to go in that cellar alone but I went down and reached into the bag. A GIANT centipede came crawling out at me!! Talk about creeped out!! Grandma had to go get her own potatoes that day!

I work on a towboat cooking and we have to store potatoes separately in crates because we have to buy so many at a time. 30lbs+ a week.

Growing up, we would take a knee high and put our potatoes into it. Potato in, then a knot in the knee high and then another knot. We would do the same thing with the onions. Then hang them out on the back porch. The kept for months.

I always keep, just potatoes, covered in a brown paper bag or a cardboard box in a cool spot.. But I've kept an apple or two in with them to reduce the “sprouting” activity.. Thanks, Pam!!!💖 I always, ALWAYS Enjoy your videos. 🌺

That's a great tip, Pam.
Alton Brown stores his beets, potatoes and carrots in sterile sand.
He said they had grown in the ground. Why not store them like they were still home?
It makes sense.

I live in Florida. Keeping potatoes in a crisper drawer in the fridge is a must.

To keep your stored potatoes from growing roots, add an apple ortwo to them.the apples put off a gas that keep them rooting
