The Rise, Fall, and Revival of Virginia Tech Football

Throughout the 2000s under head coach Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech was always in the conversation to win the ACC title and compete for spots in major BCS bowl games and even the national title game. From 2004 to 2011 they won double-digit games and were viewed as a national brand. Since 2012 though, they have only won double-digit games once and became an afterthought in the ACC under head coach Justin Fuente. But things finally seem to be on the right track for Virginia Tech under head coach Brent Pry. This is the Rise, Fall, and Revival of Virginia Tech Football.

As a VT fan, I never thought poorly of Fuente, just that he wasn't a good fit for Virginia Tech. He felt like a bigger city guy, not a smaller tightly knit community guy

I wouldn’t say they’ve been revived yet. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, they only went 7-6 and are all hype right now.

Virginia Tech definitely took some hits on their reputation from two losses in particular, the first one being against James Madison (back then an FCS team) in 2010 when they were ranked #13 and then 2018 ranked the same when they lost to Old Dominion, those losses really killed both of those seasons respectively especially the James Madison loss.

Va techs decline as a whole as a football program coincides directly with the decline of their special teams unit specifically.va tech used to have many fg/XP/punt blocks and adjust great plays on special teams throughout each season. And once the blocks started to slow down the program was slowing down as well

i was part of the very first team and always wondered how our fledgling and meddling program looked from an outsiders’s POV! ⛏️

if you think I'm wrong, remember hasn't been a NEW national champion in college football since Florida in 1996. This is a fraternity that is low in number and you ain't invited. Hell, outside of a handful of SEC and B1G teams, no one else will be invited ever again from the looks of things. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
