Mutant Slab Shock: The Heaviest Edit You'll Ever See

preview_player
Показать описание
Is Rio de Janeiro's horror slab called Shock, one of the world's most brutal waves? If this edit is anything to go by, the answer is yes. Also, one of the trickiest waves to get right.

You see, when Shock wakes up – you sometimes get a couple of pros down there, willing to take a swing at it. But for the most part, it's a group of dedicated local legends who just want to surf their home break. Despite the beatdowns, the ski going over the falls (yeah, really) that's a level of dedication from the every day rippers that we applaud and salute.

Looks like a mini version of the Right in Australia only close to shore with crazy backwash. Quite amazing.

Great job, an my first exposure to this wave. Having learned to surf in the late 70's, I've always thought towing in was kind of cheating. I know these are fantastic athletes, and most of the giant mutant waves have been paddled into at some point. I know the jetski gives you the speed to takeoff deeper & get the most out of the waves. But even today's paddle sessions, somewhere, in the back of your mind, if you get in trouble someone will try and swoop in, pick you up, and carry you back to the lineup or shore. In the olden days, when we'd paddle out, all you had was: knowledge of the break, your skills & awareness, & if you're lucky your crew might help get you out of trouble.

That being said, cheers to all the surfers, photogs, & ski drivers to allow this landlocked old man feel the sensation of getting wet again. This fall I plan to head to OC, MD & ride Assateugue & the Indian River Inlet. Who knows maybe I'll catch a hurricane, or northeaster.

Thanks for posting, I'll be checking out your other vids.

I love when I fall on my back, and get the lip to the body and drove to the times!♥

Been surfing here for five years on the north shore of Quebec. We don't have a lot of fetch, but it's alright. We don't have slabs, I don't ever want to get near a slab and even if I see so much of a slab from the shore, I'm still gonna wear a freak'n life vest

Ok so that just shook me in a very unpleasant way and I am sitting on the toilet. Heavy

Dude, I didn’t see a person make a wave and I saw a JetSki take an absolute thrashing. These dudes are insane. Not only was it a death defying slab but it had massive side wash too. I will never go near this place😬😵😵‍💫😱

Free 🍩 come one come all! I want to see someone take off on that bounce wave. That little white wash wedge turns into a 20 ft face with a 16-ft lip.
I hope that ski driver is either sponsored or has Kick-Ass insurance. 🌊🤙
