They touch on the idea but they are still heavily misrepresenting the core ideal of Hedonism. The goal is to live a life with “net pleasure over pain.” This doesn’t mean chasing instant gratification. If someone dedicated their life to curing cancer and they worked tirelessly for years, suffering to find the cure but they succeed and the realization of their purpose/satisfaction of saving lives gives them a “pleasure” that is worth the years of effort. They have succeeded from a hedonistic point of view

The fact that we can even experience pleasure is the most beautiful thing in this human life...

The dudes name was literally ‘democratis’, I would have a blast if that were my friends name. Watching the special on the Ottoman empire they mentioned wine, clarifying back then how far it was from a certain land and that wine only came from that far off land. Imagine hundreds of miles just to possibly purchase(?) a bottle, then you gotta get home. I also imagine the pristine lands and air they ventured(but then the doc. went back to ww1).

Our brain and biochemistry are made to be extremelly hedonist. In fact It was a good survival strategy when pleasures were rare as fuck. The amount os stimulus and information we experience on a month are about what we would live in a lifetime some centuries ago.
Our body and mind just werent made for our lifestyles. In 3-10 thousand years may our biology adapt to modern life

It is more important to decrease unhappiness than increase unhappiness but we need both skills💪 I hope you can do it somehow.

It is a natural tendency and can be called a philosophy.

Small pleasures aren’t sufficient. They lead to an unfulfilled life.

what is it called when one sees pleasure and pain as one in the same and is in constant persuit of both? for me feeling any extreme feeling, whether it is pleasurable or painful is the goal, whilst i am always tring to avoid mundane dull feeling of stillness or emptiness

The one questions that hedonistic people can’t answer and live out: who defines “good” ?
