This is an excellent series. For those who have limited viewpoints, the title is "Soul Food" and NOT "American Soul Food." It is explained in the series that American soul food originated in America out of necessity by the African enslaved people. However, other underclass people created cuisine out of necessity in South America, the Islands, France, Asia, Africa and Europe. It is a global passing down of recipes by poor families from generation to generation all over the world. The production is amazing, camera work is on-point. Not only are you getting a look at staple dishes you are getting a history lesson. Chef Alison Reynolds is an amazing human. I first heard of her restaurant 2 cents from the rap artists "Coast Contra" about their adventures working there as waiters. What an amazing group of young men. Chef Reynolds requires the utmost best from others and she sure gets it back in droves. Great work.

Just getting in to this show (The Bear is next) and love in ep 2 how she’s cooking this amazing food in a field over an open fire in a cobalt blue Le Creuset dutch oven. The melding is beautiful. I love that this show pulls no punches addressing the truths of American history. Hoping there’s an episode in Taos at the Pueblo!

Many of the foods eaten in Appalachia are exactly what Black folks call soul food. Same food, similar culture. Regardless of how media portrays Appalachians. And southern food is almost 100% soul food. Or, as we call it, plain old food. I liked the series because all cultures have food that feeds the souls of the people in that culture. Home cooked food is sharing love. Eating all the love that goes into home cooked food feeds the soul. Hence, soul food, as it is portrayed in the series. This series is a great watch.
