Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together.

Finnish is a Finnic language of the Uralic family, spoken by most people in Finland and ethnic Finns abroad. It is one of Finland's two official languages, along with Swedish. In Sweden, Finnish and Meänkieli (mutually intelligible with Finnish) are official minority languages. The Kven language, also mutually intelligible with Finnish, is spoken by a Finnish-descended minority in Norway's Troms and Finnmark counties.

Udmurt is a Permic language spoken by the Udmurt people native to Udmurtia. It is distantly related to other Uralic languages like Finnish, Estonian, Mansi, Khanty, and Hungarian. Udmurt is co-official with Russian in Udmurtia. There were about 324,000 Udmurt speakers out of an ethnic population of 554,000. Ethnologue estimated 550,000 native speakers (77%) out of 750,000 ethnic population in the former Russian SFSR according to the 1989 census, indicating a decline of approximately 41% over 21 years.

This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes. Udmurt word for ten "das" is exactly same as in indo-aryan languages, the same word is called "dah" in western iranic languages but in eastern Iranic languages like Pamiri languages it is still called "das or des" and in Pashto "las" because Pashto language has undergone a sound shift from "D" to "L", so in Pashto das is called las, dewane (crazy in persian) is called Lewane, Pidar (father in Persian) is called "Palar".

Finnish cousins seem even more complicated than it is, and it is already convoluted enough.

даа, без русского акцента удмуртов видимо нет, и звучало бы это гораздо ближе к финскому.

😂😂😂 Все эти люди, комментирующие об общем акценте русского и удмуртского, ничего не знают о русском языке. Удмуртский звучит чисто как какой-то тюркский язык. Но эти комментарии о русском акценте в удмуртском: 🤦‍♀️

Personally I think the classification of Finno-Ugric is pretty innacurate, I feel like they're only grouped together because of geographic proximity, but Udmurt is much more similar to the Ugric languages than Finnic languages. I'd say that Permio-Ugric is a much morw accurate grouping. Not that I'm an expert, I just think that Udmurt has much more in common with Hungarian, Khanty and Mansi than they are to the Finnic languages
