This version takes everything from the shorter one and expands it out to a grander perspective.

I will stand by this... The full album version should always be the first experience.

Hearing the shortened version is like going to a burger joint and not getting fries. It's just not the same.I'm so glad you listened to us and did the "right" thing so quickly. The "Cold hearted orb" approves.

Thank you so much for listening to the long version, I'm 65 and without fail for some reason the late lament always brings me to tears .The older I get the more sentimental I become.

For those of us who knew this from vinyl/CD and AOR radio, this is *the* version. The Late Lament is an integral part of this song, yes, but it is really the denouement of Days of Future Passed, which is an album-length exploration of a day in the life of Everyman.

Thank you, and Vlad, so much for returning to this.

Justin Hayward, the singer who wrote the song, recalls that he presented it to the band soon after he joined. He says that at first they all seemed unimpressed and he was worried that, as a junior member, his days as a Moody Blue might be numbered! But then Mike Pinder, the keyboard player, asked him to run through it again and as he did so Mike played that little Mellotron figure as an answering call between the opening phrases. Then one by one, the other band members showed interest and came on board with their own arrangement ideas. Collaborative creativity created a timeless classic.

The voice of the man reciting the poem is also so warm and pleasing.

My wife danced to this when we were teenagers. Then we danced to this at our wedding 40 plus years later. Love the full length album version.

This is what happens when a bunch of extremely talented 20 year olds are given the keys to the recording studio and told to taken orchestra into that studio - basically the classical equivalent of the Wrecking Crew - and record a Dvorak album. Instead, they more or less invented prog rock!

Yes! THAT IS the song as it was meant to be. Still can't listen to it without tearing up. You need to listen to this entire album from start to finish. One of my all-time favorite albums (even though I was only 5 when it came out).

The subscribers have spoken . . . Vlad redeems himself from yesterday's shorter, ahem, "version" . . . and Amy absolutely crushes this redux reaction! I'm 65 now but still remember hearing this masterpiece as a young kid in the '60s, wafting from my older brother's bedroom speakers, so to me "Late Lament" IS the true "Nights In White Satin." Thanks for giving the song this re-reaction Amy, and congrats on 200k subscribers.

1967 was quite a pivotal year in music ... the western world was transitioning from the post war years of the 1950's to what would become the space exploration years of the 1970's. Hits that year were The Beatles' Penny Lane, The Rolling Stones' Ruby Tuesday, and The Mamas and the Pappas' Dedicated to the One I Love. Then you had songs like Strawberry Alarm Clock's Incense and Peppermints and Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit. To add even more contrast, how about The 5th Dimension's Up, Up and Away beside Procol Harum's A Whiter Shade of Pale. Surprisingly it all all worked end to end. Then came The Moody Blues and their song Tuesday Afternoon. Their style of music was new, it was refreshing, and it hooked me for life.

The only way to listen to the Moody Blues is to listen to whole albums especially Days of Future Past it tells about a day in the life of a common man and it puts all the songs in perspective, it is really one of the greatest albums of the rock era.

as it was intended to be heard. i believe all radio edits of masterpieces like this should be destroyed so there's never any confusion. the only reason radio edits exist is to cram more commercials into an hour. it's a slap in the face of the artists who spend endless hours creating their music. thanks for the do-over.
