From Feet to Flippers: The Evolution of Whales

A 2D animation showing the evolution of whales, starting with Indohyus and ending with a modern blue whale. This was my final project for Honors in Art at the University of Iowa.

There was an important transition halfway through this video, when they had changed to the point that they could no longer come up on the land. Previous to this the whales were more like seals; this change required the whales and dolphins to sleep, give birth, and raise their young in the water.

The ancestors of dolphins used to have legs but evolved to lose them. It was defeeting the porpoise.

i love how it took millions of years for the fish to become amphibians, reptiles, then mammals etc. and at some point some mammals was like fuck it, go back to the water
and became the biggest fish ever which actually can't breathe underwater and screams to navigate
