In 1974, when I had a test drive at the Dandenong Factory, the kit price was around $2, 000. The name Eureka reflected Allan Purvis' admiration for the independent Spirit of those involved in the Eureka Stockade. The cars were advertised as "For the Individual". With 683 kits made, the Purvis Eureka was the biggest selling Kit car in Australian history. The Club just celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the first public appearance, holding a meeting in Ballarat with about 20 cars and Allan Purvis attending. I've been driving mine as a daily drive for 16 years now, and it still gets lots of attention, even 54 years after it was designed.

Yeah but the Monaro weighed about the same as 3 Novas. Power to weight ratio?
And my 68 Beetle puts out 80hp with a few simple mods. Up to 200hp is possible on a streetable engine, which would make mincemeat of a Monaro ;)

I knew of one in Adelaide that ran a Mazda rotary engine. The builder, the older brother of a friend, also filled the quarter panels with expanding foam, which stiffened the whole car considerably.

My Dad built the yellow one in the thumbnail (ea82t) and the gold one in some of those shots (ej20t, 5 speed and aircon). They are fun cars and really turn heads :)

I was offered to buy the company not long after the fire at a fire sale price and although the offer was attractive I decided to go in another direction.

Oh yeah, and there are a huge number of Beetle engine power upgrades. You could push the silly little boxer 1.6 up to about 100 bhp.
