As a 13Fox I can confirm he is speaking the truth. Not about the smoking. You see, you cannot smoke a Fox, it is impossible, you can only give a Fox free PT.

Graduated from AIT as a 13F a few months ago. It’s so much different than what he explained, its rapidly changing and much more strict than how he made it seem.

Attended basic at Fort Sill, as a 13 Fox in 1983. AIT was less physical but more mental. If you failed certain portions, you could retest but only once, after that you would be recycled into a different MOS.
A good 13 Fox must be highly functional under pressure. Knowledgeable of his duties and responsibilities. Map reading and navigation skills are essential, however to advance and succeed in this profession you must learn how to call in Close Air and Naval Gun Fire missions.
Being knowledgeable about ciphering and deciphering codes and the operation of various communication devices, laser equipment and other devices. Being physically fit is equally important because you will be humping up and through difficult terrain. Some units are more demanding than others and you may also be required to attend additional schools; like Airborne, Air Assault, and Ranger. Among others.

Good old Fort Sill. I grew up there (well, there and Germany). My dad was a Drill Sergeant at Ft. Sill in the 1970s, and then became a Pershing Missile warrant officer. I even went to Lawton High School. I've been all over that post. Great memories. :)

I was surprised to see this in 2018 .I was an 13F in 1986 Ronald Regan was President. Good to see some young men still learning this all these years now. I was with 6/14 FA in West Germany before the wall came down.

2 tours at Fort Sill back in the 80’s. Really enjoyed them.
Lawton, on the other hand, , , , was definitely a GI town. The airport would CLOSE ( lock up and shut down the lights ), and kick people out. The mall was small. But I had a great grandmother who lived there so I could go there for the weekend.
My wingman and I spent a lot of time running to Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls Texas…😉

I enlisted as a 13F and I ship in two weeks, I'm certainly terrified of the whole experience of basic and AIT I feel like I'm in terrible shape and I've never left Ohio so shipping to Oklahoma is a huge deal. Not much of a comment but just wanted to share I suppose

Haha, that was a good video with your brother. Thanks for the info! It was pretty informative and gave me a good idea of what 13F guys do.

Gonna be an 0861 which is the 13f equivalent for marines. We also train at fort sill but there is a marine detachment on the base. I'm sure it's a lot different but thanks for the video.

Cool! I was a 13F, but didn't go to Sill for it. I was an E-5 11C (mortar crewman), and in 1978 they were asking for volunteers to cross over to 13F, so I did. Because of having been an infantry FO as a mortarman at Ft. Lewis, WA (9th Inf Div), I knew the basic job already. When I finally got transferred over to an artillery battalion, I was a FIST team leader (we didn't have enough lieutenants yet). One of my guys, who last name, oddly enough was Fox, had been one of the first graduates of the FIST school at Ft. Sill. He had achieved the distinction of being called a "master blaster." I have no idea what that was. Anyway, that was my favorite job in the Army.

When the 13F MOS opened up in 78, I switched over from 11C. The only gear we had was a map, M-2 compass, PRC-77 Radio and Binos.
