A leftover from the 17th century Berrios is a ruin. The Berrios descendents still own what is left. It was added onto several times and last renovated in 1890. It is for all intentions abandon. The remaining cash crop liquor. Once the largest estate in Mexico, producing gunpowder and horses as well as the local liquor still made there, Hacienda Jaral de Berrio now epitomizes faded splendor. Its remaining interiors are a potent cocktail of the Baroque, Classical and Moorish - with some 19th century kitsch thrown in for good measure.
