I had been wanting to make this video for some time because, it’s so interesting to learn about the different types of moonstone. Today I’ll be talking about moonstone, rainbow moonstone, green moonstone, peach moonstone, and black moonstone. This video is short but, I tried to summarize everything in a simple way for beginners. Would love to know your thoughts on moonstone and, if you have a favorite!🔮

You are correct in mentioning that rainbow moonstone is in fact a variety of labradorite by definition.
A little known fun fact - Oregon sunstone is also a variety of labradorite by definition.

The spectral colours displayed in many labradorites is actually due to a separation in lamellae that is seen to occur most prominently towards the anorthite end of the plagioclase feldspar series between anorthite and albite, most notably occurrent in the feldspars technically defined as labradorite and bytownite, thus, in some cases not all stones sold as labradorite are actually labradorite but may include bytownites showing the spectral iridescence.

It may seem like splitting hairs to some, alas, definitions are important, lest we start calling all feldspars with optical phenomena moonstones which would be utterly confusing.

Just saw your video and loved it as Moonstones are one of my favourites . I'm a Cancer and do readings and the moonstones really helps. I have this Black Moonstone and it's something special ( just got it) and the energy of it is fierce. You have to try and meditate with it and would love to hear what were your sensations and opinion. Thanks so much for sharing .

Labradorite is NOT a Moonstone. Labradorite invariably has a blue schiller. It's chemical composition is ((Ca, Na)(Al, Si)4O8) and it is a Plagioclase member. It has an Anorthite percentage of between 50 and 70.

Moonstone's chemical composition is sodium potassium aluminum silicate, or (Na, K)AlSi3O8.
It has a clear schiller that billows over the stone as it is moved.

Both are feldspars. But given that 60% of the Earth's Crust is made up of feldspars, that should surprise nobody. It would be helpful if people could differentiate between two entirely different stones, with entirely different effects.

And it would be great if people stopped calling Labradorite, Rainbow Moonstone, which has never existed. Calling the stones by their ACTUAL names would be professional, Etsy sellers, I'm looking at you.

No rainbow moonstone is moonstone with rainbow Aurora. The difference would be calcium and potassium. The Aurora doesn't make the stone. Although the two stones are very close cousins.
