I know You had so many caregivers, if you don’t remember me, I had red hair, And would run down Guadalupe Street and then run downhill to your apartment when the electricity glitched or the power went off to see if you were able to breathe. Lea Ann had a car that first year I didn’t so she would drive me down to see you. That’s how you met her. I truly hope we can catch up. You’ve always been my hero! Hope you and yours are doing well.

He was an absolute legend of a man! Served as a great lesson to us all, he was (in the nicest sense) just a head yet managed to accomplish so much and much more than many full bodied people!

Paul did not look for a mechanic on the internet. a friend of his maintained and restored the Lung. There was a volunteer named Brady who took it over for a bit and was instrumental in machining some new parts. Now a few friends take care of the lung. Most of the parts are from other Iron Lungs. The Last Lung was one that some of his life long friends found and bought in Chicago. Drove it back to Texas. I know this because I do a good amount of the work on his Lung myself.

Yes that is what the portholes are for. He never had a bedsore when I worked with him and he didn’t comment about it in previous situations so we were well blessed in that regard. Thank you so much for asking and in case you didn’t know my dear friend Paul passed away this past Monday and his funeral will be on the 20th in Dallas. If he would pray for his family I know his brother would greatly appreciate it.

So sad there is no regard for these people's quality of life. Even if very few survive such conditions it should still be important to improve the available technology necessary for their survival. Why can't we easily maintain this equipment? Why is there not an alternative which allows the legs to be free from the machine for massage and movement? We should really pay more attention to those with uncommon conditions!

They could have made him a custom vest that went from his neck to his waist. This way he could have been mobile. Of course there was no profit in that since there was a handful of people, so they kept him in the iron lung.
