Is 'Hulk' (2008) a Sequel to 'Hulk' (2003)?

Because of one minor commonality in the way Ang Lee's "Hulk" ends and Louis Leterrier's "The Incredible Hulk" begins, some people have been confused into thinking the two are linked.

The obvious answer is that The Incredible Hulk was going to be a sequel to Hulk, but eventually turned out to be a reboot.

The Incredible Hulk is as much as a reboot to Hulk (2003) as Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is to Ghost Rider (2007)

It Is not a sequel, it takes place in the MARVEL CINIMATIC UNIVERSE but Talbot is in one of the mcu's shows, and talbot died in the 2003 film, so there's A difference.

It's not an official sequel as you pointed out clearly
But it can be considered a requel as the producer called it. Reboot/sequel.

Just like there are many things that don't line up there are a few that do, going south as pointed out as well as the time span, but that's really about it lol

i dont follow the mcu at all but when i was younger i loved spiderman and the 2003/8 hulks too. recently ive been appreciating the 2003 one and decided to look up if they were connected since ive forgotten a lot of 2008, and all the top answers say yes haha. but yeah thats quite the difference!

I like the gamma bomb explosion in the 2003 movie better than bruce experimenting on himself in the 2008 flim why couldn't they have just decided to go with that gamma bomb explosion in the 2008 film instead of bruce working on radiation ?

The 2008 Incredible Hulk is not a sequel to the 2003 Hulk.

Its a soft reboot and the only thing i think is truly damning evidence against their connection is the MCU having a different, living Talbot who becomes Graviton, and that doesn't even happen in a Hulk movie anyway.

The stories dont add up.
Hulk 2003 serves as an origin story. He doesnt know what to do with the hulk, but he does it use for good like to help Betty. He ends up using it to be a hero at the end of the film and embraces it.

Hulk 2008 is also an origin story of sorts. He embraces being a hulk at the end of the 2008 film. In this film he sees it as a curse and he wants to get rid of it. This movie is about him becoming a hero at the end of the film.

These two stories dont work well together. There the first in there own series.

There both unique ways of telling a hulk story, but they dont work together because then it would ruin the linear story and feel of the previous movie.

Two different actors and actresses the 2003 Betty is Jennifer Conley and the 2008 actress is liv Tyler. 2003s hulk is light greener because of the amount of radiation and gamma in his body but when his father David banner slash absorbing man is filled to the brim with almost all of Bruce's power in the lake, he still retains half of his gamma radiation power but in 2008 its different no healing nanomads, just gamma radiation and that gives him the strength and power of the hulk. In 2003 he discovers where he came from where his origin started in the Sahara desert. In 2008 that never happened. Talbot doesn't exist, the hulk dogs don't exist like he doesn't remember he fought them. Absorbing man never happened, the incredible hulk is something serving tribute to the original TV show in the 70's bill Bixbys hulk. Why explains he's testing the radiation gamma experiment on himself in the opening of the incredible hulk. I watched a cartoon about Mr Hyde and Dr. Jekyll, Dr Jekyll tested his experiment on himself and that turned into his dark evil side Mr Hyde. It also explains why hulk wants to be left alone because he's got a pinch of Frankenstein involved in his character too. 2008 hulk is dark green than 2003 hulk because different origins, different movies. But 2003 hulk if 2008 is a sequel to 2003, then Bruce would've remembered everything that happened in the previous hulk movie.
