This is a cultural stalemate that could go a lot of ways, but as a leader it’s on you to get the most out of your team no matter where they are.

So if you lead a remote or hybrid team (hybrid meaning some in office and some remote, or sometimes remote and sometimes in office) here are some tips on how to lead your team effectively.

Equal playing field - if some are remote, try to make everyone meet via video instead of having some in person and some virtual.

Create a safe environment for informal chatter - Balance corporate security with nanny-state oversight. Slack chat but let co-workers have ‘out-of-band’ channels to socialize, chat, gossip, and keep their social order

Get in-person time with the team now and then - You go to them - see them in their hometown, have everyone go to a trade show together, bring everyone to company building (if there is one) once in a while.
