“I don’t like that this is a fact of life,” Vance said. “But if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines, you realize that our schools are soft targets."

Why doesn't JD acknowledge that the shooter is 14 years old? Calling him a psycho and a barbarian creates distance from the problem of kids killing kids

Living in a country with nearly 0 shootings and very strict gun laws it’s impossible to hear this and not think he’s a moron

More security? His running mate should have the best security our government can provide, yet he was nearly shot. Acknowledging shootings are just a part of life is an unacceptable answer. This is unnatural.

A better solution is needed and it likely includes a combination of many factors beyond more security.

I know why Trump is keeping JD on the ticket, to blame him for the campaign loss in November!

Saying school shootings are a fact of life while standing before bullet proof glass is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

"I don't like they are a fact of life" and yet he provided NO proactive measures to reduce the chances guns get into the wrong hands in the first place. JD Vance and Republicans care more about keeping the gun lobby happy than saving lives.

Praying for what?! You don’t wanna change gun laws. If it were his child, he wouldn’t say “it’s a way of life”. This isn’t happening in other countries so no, it’s NOT A FACT OF LIFE!!

This is a "fact of life" in the United States; strangely not in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the United Kingdom. This is a US-gun culture-manufactured reality. I will acknowledge that US states have gun violence regardless of tight or lax gun laws (note a tight law in any US state is permissive in nearly any other nation not currently an active war zone); however, the common denominator is "the US". Tight gun laws in one US state are meaningless when pervasive gun access crosses state borders and the 2nd Amendment originalist regardless of context and ignoring the 'well-regulated' provision and technological development of firearms cultural dogma pervades. The hypocrisy is astounding.

Fact of life? That's about as bad a thing you can say about it. No compassion at all.

Praying does nothing to fix this problem.

Everything isn't always a chance to campaign. I think his remarks are inappropriate at this time. It's sickening that he couldn't find something more compassionate to say, or to show any emotional expression whatsoever.

Disgusting stuff. At least be honest about the data and potential solutions.

9 of the top 10 states for firearm deaths per captia are red states with little gun control. The 10 states with the lowest firearm related deaths per captia? All blue with strong gun control mechanisms. These stats are easily verifiable. The results are the same when only accounting for firearm homicides as well.

All the "strict gun control" cities people point as failures of gun control literally get 90% of their firearms from surrounding red states with weak gun control and unsurprisingly the worst cities for firearm deaths that nobody seems to ever mention for some reason are always in red states. Texas which is known for it's gun culture literally leads the nation in school shootings. So let's at least be honest about the numbers.

If we want to increase security measures at schools than lets talk about how feasible that really is. Security guards, armed ones in particular, will run the nation billions annually. Billions more would be needed to install and maintain metal detectors and suppression systems. This isn't even taking into account the psychological impact this kind of fortification of schools would have on students and teachers. Remember these are schools, not prisons. Having armed guards patrolling the halls, the entrances locked down with metal detectors, and the school riddled with suppression systems isn't exactly an environment super conducive of learning. Maybe some of these meaures could be useful but the reality is we need to have good regulatory mechanisms on guns.

Just place the same amount of regulations we do on cars on guns. You need to be a certain age, pass written and hands on tests/training, get permit/license, get specialized license for carry permits, pass background/mental health checks, need to register your firearms, transfer registrations when selling/buying, avoid making illegal modifications, get the firearms inspections over a certain period of time, store firearms properly, and follow all the operation/use guidelines.

We should also invest heavily in oublic health programs including mental health services.

Can we all be honest? There is only 1 common denominator. Each and every school shooting, no matter what state, time, person, mental health issues, police response times, they ALL have 1 thing in common.

His whatboutism will not change the fact that this a serious issue endemic only to the US at this scale. No other country even comes close.

Vance has supported a nationwide abortion ban and even criticized exceptions for rape and incest. He actually said, “Two wrongs don’t make a right.”
He has called Social Security and Medicare “the biggest roadblocks to real fiscal sanity.”
He said women should stay in violent marriages.

Saying that shootings is a fact of life is the stupidest answer possible.
