I write with a profound sense of disgust and disappointment regarding PM Modi’s ongoing reluctance to hold press conferences in India and his recent demeanour at the White House press meet. As a concerned citizen and a proponent of transparency, I find his actions deeply unsettling, and a betrayal of the trust placed in him by the people of India.

A prime minister should be a symbol of accountability, openness, and accessibility to the public. However, Modi’s consistent avoidance of press conferences sends a troubling message. It creates an atmosphere of opacity, breeding suspicion and mistrust among the very people who elected you to lead and represent them. The press plays a crucial role in a democracy by acting as a bridge between the government and the citizens, ensuring transparency and holding those in power accountable. Modi’s refusal to engage in this essential democratic practice raises serious concerns about his commitment to these values.

Furthermore, Modi’s demeanour during the recent White House press meet was deeply disconcerting. The visible nervousness and the apparent desire to pack up and run, instead of facing challenging questions, only serves to reinforce the perception that he is evading accountability. A leader must be willing to face scrutiny and answer tough questions, even when they are uncomfortable. This is an integral part of democratic governance and serves as a testament to a leader's integrity and strength. The lack of press conferences and his avoidance of challenging questions diminish the credibility of PM’s office and erode public confidence in his leadership.
