Defence, Industry and UK Prosperity: A Report by Philip Dunne MP

The Ministry of Defence's formal obligation to contribute to national prosperity is several years old and the Secretary of state recently asked Philip Dunne MP to prepare an independent report on what the MoD is doing and might do differently in future. Philip, as a former Minister for Defence Procurement brought considerable expertise to this topic.

Philip Dunne MP was first elected as Member of Parliament for the Ludlow constituency in 2005. In September 2012, Philip was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Ministry of Defence, with responsibility for defence equipment, support and technology. Following the General election in May 2015, he was promoted to Minister of State for Defence Procurement at the Ministry of Defence. In addition to his previous responsibilities for defence acquisition and exports, he supported the Secretary of State on the Strategic Defence and Security Review and sat on the Defence Board of the Ministry of Defence.

He went on to serve as Minister of State for Health at the Department of Health, before returning to the backbenches in January 2018.

Prior to entering politics, Philip had a successful career in financial services. He also co-founded and served as Chairman of the chain of bookshops, Ottakar's.
