James Craig Tall Ship - 2025 Hobart to Sydney Voyage - Episode 2

We continue our voyage up the East Coast of Tasmania and across Bass Strait.

What an amazing experience, sailing in a swell of up to 8 metres and with a Southerly blowing up to 50 knots. It was everything one could want, and some, to experience the James Craig at her finest.

She was rocking and rolling in the seas, however everyone onboard, were in high spirits.

We made our way into the safe anchorage of Eden for an overnight stop. Some of us were fortunate to go ashore and check out the town, while others went sailing in the Captain's Gig.

Words cannot describe how amazing the voyage has been so far.

We are so fortunate to be part of something so special.

Watching this reminds me of my days delivering boats, held my masters USCG license for 35 plus years, loved watching the water go by wondering who else rode the same, never looked at it as a job it was a treat to be there.Getting close to 80 still wish I was with this crew, loved the motion of the ocean, would put me to sleep, enjoy fair seas to everyone, 👍

Been waiting for this, thanks so much! The seas in the Bass strait are no joke. That's something you won't soon forget. Cheers!

Great video, very interesting how a large sailing ship works, from the view of the deck, in rough weather, and the importance of teamwork.

Woah!! Looks like some cool adventures. So inspired watching your video as we are still in the middle of huge refit of our 65' catamaran, and we always look forward on a adventure too.

I used to see this boat down near the Anzac bridge for so many years being rebuilt by volunteers with almost imperceptible progress ... and now here she is decades later brought to life!

Beatiful sailing, good to get along on a video - better than nothing. I have done a little sailing in local ships and one thing that I noticed was when crew fastened the lines to belaying pins - I was told that one should not use the yacht way, putting line under a loop. I was told that just crisscrossing the line several times held the line (it did) and it was safer to release the rope in the night etc as you could release it without issue if there was tension on the line… synthetic hemp looking rope etc.

I remember walking through the James Craig when it was being restored in Sydney. It was just an empty steel hull at that point. Amazing to think it's sailing now.

That bullwark corrosion is severe. Steel ships are a pain in the rs. Glad you enjoyed it.
I did that section of this trip in 18 hours on my first voyage offshore 40 years ago.

I Dream! but I wonder how many of them got seriously seasick on that the rolling sailing ship especially under deck (one holding his stomach, one sitting near the reling). The ladies seem to be supertough. Anyway a little jealous about such a wonderful voyage with such great folks on such a ship.

I heard you say “boat” a few times. It’s a Ship! Ex seaman. Great video by the way! Cheers.
