The M4A1 S has an absurdly thin charging handle without the latch. Because of that, you have a mobility advantage over the M4A4. However, the M4A1 S' selector switch is stuck on safe. Therefore, it wouldn't fire. Whereas the M4A4 is on Auto, and will fire. Seems like a tie to me.

EDIT 9/27/23: Thanks to the full release of CS2, Valve actually fixed the M4A1 S model by having the fire selector in the auto position, and gave it a proper charging handle. Therefore, rendering this entire comment null and void

I've always prefered the M4A4 due to having more ammo and a spray pattern similar to the AK-47, which helps with consistency, but I was forced to use the M4A1-S due to it clearly being the better option in all categories. Now I can move back without worrying about being at a severe disadvantage.

The A1-S has the funny suppressor, no matter the nerf I use it regardless.

I believe that by nerfing the A1S Valve have accidentally made the AUG overpowered once again. It's now in my opinion the optimal strategy to use the A1S when you're playing close range angles and/or are short on cash, and the AUG when you're ahead or you're playing a long range position such as A long on overpass.

The AUG still puts both the M4s to shame with its superior stats. It's the only CT rifle that can onetap helmeted oponents

A1-S just because of the spray pattern and the silencer, sometimes the enemies can be so confused as to where you are shooting from

I have been using the SG since I started playing the game, it was ultra-accurate, it had good firing speed, good recoil, had a scope for long range engagements... Now it's less accurate and fires slower than any rifle in the game. I don't want it to be overpowered, I just want them to make it an alternative to an AK again.

Switched to a4 after the a1-s nerf… and I’m back to a1-s. It’s the difference in price that’s most noticeable. Also the aug fills the same shoes and comes with a scope. A bit more but the ct rifle options are better with the a1-s selected

As someone who plays with friends in low gold/high silver, the a4 is definitely the way to go. It's too often that the entire T side pushes the site while the rest of my team is off on the opposite side of the map, and the a1s just doesn't have the bullets needed to spray the whole team down.
