At long last, members of Live Oak Baroque Orchestra (aka Agave Baroque) have finished our video of BWV 1038, a wonderful Bach family collaboration wherein Johann Sebastian took the bass line from his G major violin and continuo sonata, BWV 1021, and assigned his sons the task of creating/layering a trio texture over it. (Anna Magdalena's handwriting is also present on the manuscript, along with Carl Philipp Emanuel's.) Both versions are magnificent! We enjoyed the challenge of creating this video from a distance, layering it up from the bass (and, oddly enough, paralleling how the piece was composed in layers). This was not the same type of musical experience as playing in the same room, but given the circumstances, it was a fun and fulfilling challenge! Thank you, Linda Haines, for giving us the inspiration and support to create this project in the age of social distancing! Thank you Sonoma Bach for keeping the music going in our community! Enjoy!
