Here's how I scored #1 on multiple tests at a top US medical school. Our program didn't do rankings, so I cannot tell you my exact rank. While we often focus on how to learn the material, a large part of test performance comes down to test taking strategy. Here’s how you can improve your own test taking skills.

A good tip I found for multiple choice questions, like on the MCAT: when crossing out wrong answers, cross out the part of the answer that makes it wrong, not the whole thing. This forces you to think about why an answer is incorrect, rather than just going off of feeling.

Learn how to study for medical school.

Don't compare yourself to others.

Get to know the staff and administration.

Seek out older med students.

Make time for and actually do the nonmedical things you love doing.
