Tarps only stop water from directly hitting the objects. That piano was on a surface that water pooled and spread under the tarp. The sun did the rest of the work and made a giant humidity chamber. We live and learn

Some days even I feel like a velvet piano in the rain: Carefree, spirited, and soft, vulnerable… with no clue why someone put you in such a compromising place to begin with, especially if they truly cared about you 😔

Speaking as a pianist, it was probably already at least partially ruined when the keys were painted and if any paint got into the felt and hammers. Leaving a piano outside is a death sentence for a piano; storm or no storm. Humidity, sun, and heat will inevitably ruin it.
Sad fate for that piano.

You could build a dessication tent around it. You could use plastic sheet, just as long as you can get it fairly well sealed around it. Then put in a bunch of moisture absorbers and a fan. A dehumidifier would work too. Leave it for a few days, and check every couple days to make sure it's sealed, and change out dessicants as needed. I think that would get it right again!
