For those who are wondering. The PM is actually addressing his speech to Singaporeans to be better prepared for future challenges. He shared how he views the current situation and is acutely aware of the impact of trade war between nations. He expresses his wish for cohesion and harmony in the world.
And he is just sharing a matter of fact what would happen next and call for Singaporean to be prepared.
Anyway this isn't the first storm we face, it's going to be tough. But we will just have to rough it out through the storm, with a small nation like us.

PM Wong’s take on the US tariffs is spot on. Times are getting tougher, but Singapore’s doing what we do best—staying calm and planning ahead. Setting up a task force is a smart move, and doubling down on ASEAN, RCEP, and CPTPP gives us strong regional backup.

We just need to keep doing what works: stay a neutral hub, deepen regional ties, keep attracting talent and investment, and always be that safe, trusted place in Asia. Small country, but big strategy. Singapore’s not sitting still—we’re future-proofing.

This is going to be an unpopular comment 😀 but Singapore has a big advantage in its government. A government of technocrats who govern based on facts and logic and have a proven track record. We have been in crises literally since the day Singapore was founded and not only are we still around, we have gone from strength to strength. This time we will persevere as well.

I congratulate this art of telling what lies ahead, bad tidings, but resolute in face of adversity. To sum up, PM Wong is articulate and inspires confidence here and there

Very good insight on tarrif wars that only do no good on the world economy. Let there be free trade and let all prosper.

Don’t worry : Our late founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew had gone through terrible times while he was in charge - yet we survived under his leadership. PM Lawrence, please don’t worry - as long as we stay united, positive, I believe we can pull through.

We are always entering a new phase. It is up to the highly-paid leaders to take the lead. Singaporeans have always been hardworking and diligent because we know what we lack and we know how to strive.

A real pity. Singapore and USA had a special friendship. Singapore was the first pan-pacific country that USA had a free-trade agreement with. It was historic. Unfortunately certain countries just can’t keep to their words and agreements. No wise countries should trust USA again.

Did not Trump said reciprocal? Since SG give 0 tariffs to US, why is he not reciprocating?

Every country has the right to protect their citizens, so does America. Only their leaders know what is right for their citizens like what our government is doing for its citizens. They have sacrificed enough for the welfare of the world. It's time they take care of their citizens.
