La vis Flowform ® est une alternative innovante aux méthodes conventionnelles d’assemblage de feuilles de métal. Elle rend possible l’assemblage de plusieurs composants sans qu’il soit nécessaire de percer au préalable. La vis fonctionne sur la base du fluoperçage, un procédé qui produit des trous filetés ou non-filetés dans les pièces en métal. La vis avec son bout très aiguisé tourne à haute vitesse. Lorsque le bout de la vis vient en contact avec le métal, de la chaleur est générée, ce qui rend le matériau assez mou et malléable pour qu’il soit formé et perforé. Le métal chauffé forme un lien fileté profond et solide autour de la vis.

The Flowform® screw is an innovative alternative to conventional methods of joining sheet metals together without pre-drilling. The fastener is based on flow-drilling, a process for producing threaded or unthreaded holes in metal parts. The sharp pointed screw is spun at high RPMs. As the spinning tip comes into contact with the metal, heat is generated, making the material soft and malleable enough to be formed and perforated. The heated metal forms a deep, solid threaded bond around the screw.
