As long as Fuji-sama is in the next episodes...

The model for the Shogun was Ieyasu Tokugawa, existed. In his later years, he experienced two major wars. So there are enough of interesting episodes around him, to create Season 2 and 3.

Scared but hyped also. Was nervous typing this. Season 2 yea I can see it being a prequel or a continuation but Season 3 idk. I'm scared they might ruin it but I'm so invested in the world of Shogun I want more of it

Why is YouTube 0:31 and Yahoo using a picture of the dead character played by Ana Sawai to promote season 2 & 3 when she's not even in the show any longer?

The best way to go about this is to try to Adapt the next seasons closely to the real history the book is based on.

I would rather a continuation instead of a prequel, they could do 4 or 5 episodes just on the aftermath of the finale of season one and then 3 episodes on the actual battle. That would be insane

Prequel would be great! But Mariko still being alive and hidden from us would be great too!

I scoffed at Fargo, Better call Sal and Frasier but I’ll still keep my expectations in check and hope to be wrong.

If there is one thing that I can hold out hope for is that this production team and writers have a mastery of subtlety in storytelling and has done nothing but surprise and thrill me whenever I have started to doubt.
But they are really playing with fire from what I feel was a perfect session/series. I loved the book and I possibly loved the show more, but ultimately both were a rehash of history and there sure is a lot more interesting history and characters to cover in that era but now they are off the track of a great novel and toying beloved character. I really hope they don’t just AI-Gen-fill some story archs as a cash grab and actually do something interesting to tell the story further.

My favorite characters, Yabushige and Lady Mariko, are dead. But Game of Thrones killed off Ned Stark and it was still an interesting series after that. Characters can be replaced. It's the writing that matters. I just hope the writing doesn't crap out now that they have no original work to base their scripts on.

don't forget kiku and gin, they deserve a series of their own. Also the Jesuits.

I mean there's plenty it could be about, but in terms of the book....the show ended where the book did.

Season 2 should move away from the Clavell books.
Because the facts of this period are more complex and interesting than the novels.

I hope it is not a prequel, I would like to see what happens next

It should start with the legendary Battle of Sekigahara and then end with the Portuguese Catholics being kicked out of Japan.

If this is the case, they should have just expanded the book into multiple seasons. There are many parts in the book which are quite clear about the characters' motivations and the cultural attitudes. For example, Fuji performs her duty as Blackthorne's consort, and when asked by Toronaga (at the end of the book), she offers very smart opinion about setting up Blackthorne's household because she really wants to end her 6 months stint. She doesn't understand Blackthorne and also wants to complete her duty to end her life. Toronaga is impressed with Fuji's intelligence and feels shamed losing her. Characters are given more enriched places.

In the 2024 series, the scene wtth Fuji and Blackthorne's on the water seemed nice. However, it wasn't very convincing to me because she still allowed her son to be killed and wanted to commit suicide at the beginning of the series. In other words, she is a traditional person even in the series. She would have wanted the spirits of her husband and son to be at peace. Dumping the ash in the harbor probably isn't in the cards to accomplish that. I would have preferred expanding her role a bit to explain her change of heart, including her reason to become a nun.
