Age Discrimination Food Truck Experiment | Disrupt Aging

Every day age discrimination happens behind closed doors. We wanted to see what it would look like if we brought it out into the open. So, we set up a social experiment with the help of a food truck. We disguised an actress as an employee and refused to serve anyone over 40. Watch our hidden cameras and tell us how you would react in the comments below. #DisruptAging

I know someone 55, looking for a job, who was told, "A person your age might not want to learn our way of doing things. Plus, the younger people who work here dont want an older person coming and and TAKING THEIR HOURS". Can you imagine if that were said about women or a person of color? But this was said about a qualified 55 year old

Excellent! I especially LOVE that guy with the afro who was the first to speak up, and motivated his friends to do the same and walk away.

I'm soon turning 44, looking for a job and... this is my life right now. And has been since I turned 39 anytime I was between jobs. Sick, sad world.

A lot of age discrimnation is practiced nonverbally. Negative attitudes are well cultivated.

Who would thumb this down? Theres plenty of age discrimination out there. Its actually ruining a lot of peoples lives... destroying people. They cant get a job, and then they are mocked for not working or being a burden on society. Its sickening.

Job hunting last year at 51 was so rough. I ended up getting hired at an Amazon warehouse where they’ll hire anyone that shows up and passes the drug test.

I’m 65, ride a bike to work a mile away, I feel young and active, I also go swimming at the gym for fun. Walk everyday at least two miles. But, yet, I am not included in simple conversation at work where the others are young. It doesn’t feel very good.

Nobody cares. I got pushed out of my career at 57 and never found a job after that. College degree, 30 years experience Icu, ed, nicu, ob, trauma, sub acute, trauma rehab.
Nearly 1 in 4 workers age 45 and older have been subjected to negative comments about their age from supervisors or coworkers.
About 3 in 5 older workers have seen or experienced age discrimination in the workplace.
76 percent of these older workers see age discrimination as a hurdle to finding a new job; another report found that more than half of these older workers are prematurely pushed out of longtime jobs and 90 percent of them never earn as much again.

I work in technology, and the age discrimination is rampant. My solution was to start my own business when I was “laid off” (in spite of superior performance reviews) when I was 42. I was then quietly replaced with someone younger and cheaper. However, self-employment is not an option for everyone since it requires you have the character for it.

It's nice to see even one person speak out. Bless those few!

My dad could never get stable work again after we moved away from his 25 year job in the local council. And none of the work he got matched his experience.
He was starting from rung 0 on the ladder again in his 50s despite looking younger and being fitter than some of his coworkers in their 30s.

My mum was able to get another job easily. But then she was left disabled through medical negligence and he had to become her full time carer.
If anything happens to her or their marriage, he would have to start again in his 60s.

I'm concerned about myself, too, because I'm 32 and still in education.

YAY!!!! I love this video much. We are the ROCK generation (NOT THE ROCKER GENERATION, PEOPLE!) We simply can NOT sit back and allow ageism to continue. So many other communities and special interest groups have fought for their rights, their voice, their PLACE in our society. The time has come for OUR community to do likewise. SPEAK UP! SPEAK OUT! Whether it's in the workplace, the doctor's office, taking to social media and calling out companies that target our spending dollars by ATTEMPTING TO EXPLOIT our age to get us to buy their products, or DEVALUE us by using stereotypes about us to boost their ratings or sales, CALL THEM OUT! Yes, I am passionate about this issue, and the time for ageism's demise has arrived. I just spoke of this issue on my channel this past week, to help draw attention to it. Also, if you see a positive article or video, post it to your social media so others can begin to hear the message we WANT them to hear. Great job, AARP! LOVE this. Peace! ~Toni 😊💋💚🌺😇

As a 68 year old with a college degree and 20 years experience, and looking for over a year for a job after being "let go", I can tell you age discrimination in employment is alive and well. It's open and blatant. It's the last ACCEPTABLE prejudice. So--why aren't all the "woke" crusaders out there doing something about THIS?

That's very bad!!! Wow! It's like....I don't even know what to think. 40 is still young. How can society think that it's not young. Wow!!!

If I was a humanitarian, for example, my fictional company would only hire someone in their 40’s. My mom was a brilliant lady, with only a high school diploma, she raised me and my sister. At age 50, mom got a grant for truck driving. She had her own truck, made great memories, met her 2 husband then she lived until she was 70 years old. Older people have life experience with patience, joy, happiness, now that’s success to me.

Although meant for age discrimination it is a great video to amplify how degrading it feels to be denied service based on who you are. So next time someone says a gay person should simply go to a different service provider when denied service remember this video and how upsetting and humiliating it must feel to be treated less than for who you are. Discrimination for anyone is wrong and should not be tolerated.
