Seriously, with the new prices on things, it's becoming clear that a regular 98" flat screen TV is gonna be the best option. TV's keep going down in price while projectors keep going up.

Am I the only one completely bored with the announcement of new projectors that cost more than a sensible car? If Sony wants to impress me they’ll bring back the 40 series. Maybe a 46ES with pixel shift for 2 or 3 grand? Paying $16k for 2700 lumens (never mind $32k for 3400 lumens!)… as they say around here: the math ain’t mathin’. And now Epson seems to have abandoned the middle market as well. Introducing newer high dollar models while leaving the 5050ub to rot, unchanged for over 5 years! Dlp manufacturers are starting to stretch into the middle market with some solid state offerings— I’m rocking a BenQ HT4550i and I love it— but those are few and far between.

Great presentation. Would you recommend the new Bravia Projector 8 or 9 to project on a 300" screen?

The audio is interesting on this video, sounds like background noise was muted.

If a TV requires a moving truck and a crew to get it in and out of your house it's too dang big. I've never been obsessed with big screens, I care more about the image quality.

I wrote off Sony after seeing how they handled the panel degradation fiasco

It seems that Sony and other companies that are releasing projectors at this point are sticking their heads in the sand, hoping that people don't realize that there are 98" TVs for $3000 to $6000 that can outperform the projector. Or, that there are 110 to 115" TVs for around $20, 000 or less. I guess, if someone has a massive room that requires a screen size larger than than, then fine go for a projector. When you put those projectors on a large screen the HDR experience will be drastically compromised anyways, where going for such large screens will not produce the best video experience. The vast majority of us don't need a projector anymore with these massive TVs now being affordable in price. Even before you could get a 98" TV for the prices we can today, I was having a hard time trying to convince myself to build a room around a projector that has no windows, has walls that are very dark, so that I can be forced to sit in the dark just to get a good picture quality out of it. Oh, and the projector is probably pretty close to your head so that you can hear the fan buzzing away the whole time you are watching the thing. I don't have any interest in a projector, now that such large screen sizes with great picture quality are available at such low prices.

Bravia 9 4 life! With a projector, you really need 4, 000 lumnes or more to start with. As many variables that will reduce the brightness, e.g. screen size, screen gain, etc. The larger the screen the dimmer the picture gets. The lower the gain of the screen, the higher your contrast will be. Using a lower gain screen, should be recommended like a .6 gain, however, that will decrease your brightness by 40%. If you are in a light controlled room projectors are awesome, but when in multiple purpose rooms, TVs are the way to go. Heck TVs are even cheaper now.

It frustrates the hell out of me that pretty much all their TVs still suffer from HDMI hand shake issues for CEC control😭

Sony UK/Europe customer service is not what it should be 🤬 and is damaging to the brand.

I really wish Sony would look back at their heritage, as an audio visual brand and release new ES audio products along with a high quality 4K Blu-ray player of a similar design (and build quality) to the BDP-5000ES.
