I heard of Oobleck back when this kid named Bartholomew Cubbins had to get rid of a flood of the stuff.

It was green and sticky like glue, falling out of the sky. The King had gotten mad that only four things ever feel from the sky, and he wanted something new. So he demanded something new from his Royal Magicians.

The rest of the story follows. Just look for the tale of "Bartholomew and the Oobleck". I first read that tale over fifty years ago. Scared the oobleck out of me!

Of course, the non-Newtonian Oobleck is not very much like the Oobleck in the story. Except that it was new, and it didn't behave like the stuff we were familiar with.
