DIY Camshaft Position Sensor Removal and Installation Dodge Neon

Here is a quick video on how to change your cam shaft position sensor on a dodge neon 2003. You will need to first remove the battery with 2 (10mm) sockets and 14mm socket for the batter holder bracket, and then you will need to remove the camshaft position sensor that is held on the side of the block with 4 (8mm) bolts. It's that simple and reinstall.

I wish my 98 were that accessible.
Infamous leak spot on the 1st gens.
Previous owner thought it would be a great idea to just tighten it down til it cracked instead of taking it off and replacing the o-ring.
Tight spot on the 1st gens.

The car was having a hard time starting, it would turn over but hard time starting. When it was working, I took it to autozone for the check engine light and it came up the code for camshaftsensor but it actually ended up being a bootleg wire on the camshaftpositionsensor. Thanks for watching please subscribe, check out my other vids, and let me know if you need some more help!

besides the check engine light.. What made you decide to change the sensor? did the engine run rough or start hard or ping/knock? I have to change one this weekend myself. Just curious. thanks. Virginia, USA

Im buying a used 03 neon SE, and the check engine light is on due to the battery temp sensor missing, in fact all the protector of the battery is removed, do you have an idea if i can replace it? in first place, where should the cable sensor or the complete sensor could be? because i dont see any loose or hanging sensor near the battery, thanks in advance have a great day

It did initially after I reset the car cpu by taking the negative battery cable off for 10 minutes, but later it came back up because of a loose wire for the camshaft position sensor, I told the owner that could happen and he needed to replace the camshaft position sensor harness because the person that worked on the car before, I did obviously broke it and used a tie end to bootleg keep it together. Thanks for wathcing and let me know if you have any more questions. Please subscribe!

Can you buy a camshaft right out of the store, or do you have to order it online?

Yeah, it has good spark, and the gas pump is working right. I'm just totally lost on this issue….

my neon has a humming sound after a few minutes of driving, when I press on the gas, I can feel resistance on it. this week, on the highway, it wouldn't accelerate anymore . I try to press the gas but it will sputter. turned the car off and waited a few minutes. after that it drove like nothing happened. Anyone else has this issue?

my dear friend thawedwow, you will not get the trouble code for camsensor malfunction i.e. Po340 on odometer just by clicking ignition 3 times.Believe me you need OBD2 reader for that.as I had the same problem and could only get this code with the help of OBD2 reader.

I would say start with a OBDII scanner at autozone and see if a code comes up, thats the best way...let me know how it goes..it could just be some many things..sorry... CJ
