The main pilot talking sounds exactly like a pilot I used to fly with in the Navy (SAR) a lot of years ago. He was a really good helicopter I wonder if it's him because he left the Navy to become a commercial pilot for Britanna/Thomson. That was 2002 so he'd certainly be a captain by now.

Bird strike.
Normally, the engine won't surg or stall and the engine monitor won't show any weird data. However, sometimes the N1 vibration rating may reaches a high number and the N2 may stall.

Wow, you could see that bird go right into the intake at :17, and then see the engine sputtering flames just before he called "Mayday." I'm a bit surprised he opted to go on to another airport! (Many airports have considerable grass at the airport, a lure for birds.) Interesting, thank you for posting.

I had a bird strike the other day and whilst dealing with the situation ATC asked me, where was the strike, so i told him, just under its beak.
