Royal Enfield has launched a completely new version of the popular bike by the same name that came to the UK in 2016. Designed for exploring the Indian Himalayas and therefore robust, simple, reliable and able to take on a wide range of terrain and work in all temperatures. Fast forward to the end of 2023 and the Indian-owned firm invited us to ride the brand new version around, you've guessed it, the Himalayas.

For the full review, head to BikeSocial but meanwhile, soak up the stunning scenery in this video where Adam 'Chad' Child introduces the bike and offers his first impressions after two days on-and-off-road.

“Tarmac, to potholes, to gravel” will be good on uk roads then. 😂

As a former owner of a 2020 Himalayan, this is the first bike I've been genuinely excited for, ever. I loved my Himalayan, but it just needed more OOMPH for UK motorways. I just hope they haven't taken away that sense of purpose and steadiness that the original had.

It is so impressive to watch a company's products getting better-and-better, and speaks so well of company management - especially the CEO, who is an enthusiast, himself.

I spent two weeks in the Himalayas this year. Best riding experience ever. Challenging and exhilarating!

You can change the modes on fly. Just close the throttle, pull the clutch lever and press the mode button : )

A spectacular setting for the launch! Looks like a pretty competent bike, what more could you want?

I love my Inty 650 and I always said that if they made a Himalayan with the 650 engine, I’d get one. This now has similar power. I’m very tempted…

It's a great time to be in the market for a 400-500cc dual-sport/on-off/small adv (which is imo one of the most sensible categories in the market). Apart for the Himalayan, there are also the Chinese; the Kove 450 has some reputation and here in Greece the Voge 300 Rally has been selling well. If I'm not mistaken these days at EICMA Benelli, CFMoto, Zontes, all unveiled some similar bikes. Apart from KTM which has the pricier 390ADV, the other big manufactures are kind of missing out (Kawasaki had that splendid Versys 300, shame they didn't go anywhere with that)

This has got to be the most spectacular bike launch ever, with a bike that is hardly stellar, yet is supremely confident and fit for purpose, perfect for the average rider who just wants to go places, have excitement without fuss, and arrive safely.

Reminds me of an xt500 for dome reason.
And that is a good thing.
Hope it does really well.
Ride safe and happy travels 👍

I'll stop waiting for a Yamaha T5 and I'll buy this one.
Why can only RE develop what most people want ?
I know, bigger bikes means bigger profit per unit.

The big manufacturers seem to forget that big sales ALSO means big profits.

I wonder how all the journalists felt about Itchy Boots having the bike out before everyone?
I certainly looks a big step up from the old model.
Pricing will be everything

Great upgrade to the old Himalayan..
Lots of new features and tech coming in.

This will be the go to bike for all your rough road adventures at a price which won't pinch your wallet.

Just hope RE have maintained good quality control.

Thanks for the British perspective. I'm in India, from US. Good to get global thoughts on the bike.

I'm keeping my now 'old' Himalayan, I like simple things, that's why I bought it. But with a liquid cooled DOHC engine, ride-by-wire and a handful of ride modes the new Himalayan is no longer simple, it's just like all the rest in this category.

Thank you for appreciating the location and scenery. I was appalled by most other reviewers who were laser focused on describing only the bike and its specs and completely forgetting one of the key aspects of motorcycling..which is to appreciate and connect with the outdoors.

You can change the modes on fly. Just close throttle pull in the clutch then it will let you change as you free glide.

I assume that, with the new “Sherpa” engine, we no longer have screw-and-locknut valve adjustments. I’m guessing that shims are now required. Can anyone confirm?

It seems like a capable bike but price and reliability are the key points for me. I own a 411 Himalayan and I don't think it's a coincidence you see a lot for sale at about the 5k miles mark. I have had lots of little teething issues with my bike whereby it sort of feels like you have to finish building the bike for Enfield as components come loose or fail over the first few thousand miles. Steering head bearings for example shouldn't be going at 4k miles - they were clearly not greased properly in the factory and then also over-torqued, this is a pretty common issue for the Himalayan, another is the swing arm pivot seizing up but thankfully I nipped that in the bud on my bike.
