A boss told me once that he DESPISED that i walked and not run whenever i was going from one place to another bc if you run it looks like you're working harded. I replied that i did get the work done and he said 'i know you do but still it makes you look bad" ... i'm glad i dont work there anymore

I hate that I feel guilty when I stop & rest. I really needed to hear the last part of this video. Even Jesus rested on Sunday. Society has made us feel that slowing down a little means we're lazy.

What wonderful insight. As a mature single woman I find everyone in my peer group busy being busy. They seem to think that if they 'admit' they have free time, it will be a sign that they don't have enough friends or that they are not wanted. They fill their days with endless activity and don't have time for real friendships. If you have a crisis, which by definition is unplanned, they don't have time to help out. I really miss the days when people would just pop round and no-one was too busy to lend a hand. It's all rather sad.

For me, the people who tell me how busy they are, are usually the ones who complain the most about how busy they are.

I was busy all the time before I retired. I hated my job for about 3 years before I retired. I retired at 62. I'm loving not being busy. There's pressure from my family to be busy and also to work a part time job because my retirement is modest. I resist the pressure because I'm happy. I used to be tired all the time and also spent more money on gas, food and just about everything. I became extremely frugal. I can save a little every month for an emergency account. I wish my family would be happy for me.

I think we should also accept that things are temporary... AND that they're not supposed to last forever. If you have a bake shop that was very successful for a few years then something came up and you had to sell it, it doesn't mean the business was a failure. It just worked for that season of your life. Same with relationships, friendships, exercise routines. Maybe things ended, but you gained rich experiences and lessons from it.

When I say “I’m busy”, it’s just because I don’t want to do something and I use that as an excuse.

This was all so true.

I am British. But live in Germany. I love that in Germany shops are not open on Sundays. You are not allowed to do noisy work at home eg use a hammer, lawnmower or washing machine etc..because this should be a day of rest and quite to allow people to rest..

Because of these rules, it makes it easier to relax, have family time etc on a Sunday..something I have learned to appreciate since having children.

My husband was a non busy person I think. He lived by his calendar for as long as I knew him. If you wanted to have a piece of his time you had to "get on the square". This was a requirement for everyone from "The President of the United States" to his daughter's friend who had a birthday party and everyone in between. He always made time for his job, his community commitments and to play on the weekends. Sadly, he passed nearly 5 years ago and I still miss him, but I remember what he said to people, "How can I help you be successful today?"

I used to say I was busy at my previous job. It wouldn't have been I good idea to say stressed, overworked, and verbally abused. Much happier without that paycheck I left 14 years ago as I have found other pursuits which give me joy.

There is a difference between being busy and in the “flow state”. I choose to spend my time doing activities that are connected to cooking, gardening, exercising, reading and getting together with like minded people doing gardening (native plant restoration projects) and exercising running/cycling groups and yes a hockey team! When I am gardening and cooking and running I am in that flow state and super happy.

I appreciate how thoughtfully, precisely and calmly you speak. It makes it easy to hear and comprehend your message the first time through. The work your invested to prepare for this video shows that you do what you are teaching and value the viewer’s time. Thank you!

I think people answer "busy" as a way to let the person they are speaking with know that they are not open to being asked to do anything by that specific person. For example, I know a woman who asks how people are doing to test the waters, and if they reveal they have the afternoon free, then she will pounce and ask for favors and projects to be done, and once you have revealed that you aren't busy, it's a lot harder to say no without feeling awkward. I assume if someone is asking pointed questions about my life & schedule they are trying to find a way to demand more of my time, so I will always say I'm busy. Busy means I already have plans to do what I want, even if it's organizing a drawer, taking a shower, or reading a book, which are all valid.

This was such a great video. Thank you. I am alone ALOT and I really love it; yet I feel guilty when I say no to almost everyone. I just love making things, hiking, kayaking, reading, etc....all on my own. I only want a few close friends now. I have let go of almost everyone as I think the pandemic woke me up. I had no idea who I was. Everything was "to get more money". I lost my job and my health and I think it was the best gift ever. Anyway, thanks again.

People are too busy? Many people spend a lot of time on social media but can't keep in touch in real life. We choose how to spend our time! Make time for people who make time for you.

I totally agree with what you say about rest. So many people see it as lazy to take that time out to rest, but it is so important.
