This is not the case for a country like Saudi Arabia. Saudi is increasingly becoming friendlier with China, yet the U.S. maintains strong economic and security ties with Saudi Arabia. This is because the US needs Saudi Arabia for strategic and economic reasons, and specially because Saudi could once again shatter the U.S. economy by increasing global oil prices. So there is nothing the U.S. could do about Saudi Arabia no matter how close they get with China.
