I'm from Hiatus' home town of Melbourne Australia, where this style of production is generally considered to be really hip. It surprises me that anybody feels like we need more squeaky clean soul records in 2021.

If anyone is contemplating listening to this album I highly recommend it each song has found it’s way to getting stuck in my head to the point where I’m dreaming about these songs in my sleep and wake up singing them. It’s addicting to say the least

Fantano is still judging them as a "neo-soul" act and expecting that type of production and arrangements, which is not at all what Hiatus Kaiyote is about. They are crate diggers, taking influences from all geographies and eras - from Les Baxter to Zappa, Japan to Brazil - and their sonic palet reflects that.
