Well, it's a new mother tuckin' day! Cruising is a part of our history that was born out of necessity. And like it or not, cruising continues to thrive today.

People just need to stop being judgemental, period. Not everything is for everyone. There are a miriad of kinks and fetishes... watersports, dom/sub, fisting, sounding, role play etc etc etc. Cruising is no different. If it's not your thing, then great... it's not mine either. But don't stand on a pedestal and talk down to others about it. The same measure of judgement you're attributing to cruisers, is the same measure (if not more) that MANY religious straight folks pass on ANY queer person. So quit with the holier-than-though BS

I was one of those whose only outlet was to cruise. I would go to a huge local park here in Oklahoma. I knew it was extremely risky and had to be careful not to get arrested. After a while you notice who are actually looking to hook up and who were undercover police.
Great video explaining why and how the cruising culture came into being.

Great video Patrick! Back in the 1960s and 1970s a lot of us had... House Parties... because the cops who would raid the gay bars. Now moving on to 1984. My LT and I we're living in a rural area on a 5-acre farm when one night at 12:30 our driveway filled up with a sheriff's cars. One of the sheriff's deputies informed us if we were not out of his County in 30 days we would be arrested on sodomy issues. Unfortunately my LT has passed I enjoy cruising and also the bathhouse scene. We learned a lot of tricks on how to cruise and pick up back in my day. Thanks darling for this great video!

Thank you for addressing this topic without seeming to be personally bothered by the comments. It shows that you're emotionally in control of your own narrative. I love that! I used to cruise downtown when I lived in ohio. There were known areas for it so it was easy to hookup and keep moving.

As someone who doesn't open up to people emotionally - practically ever - cruising is about the easiest way for me to obtain a physical connection, bypassing the mess of human emotions entirely.

I love this. Great lesson. However you do have something very wrong. The part about DADT. I was in the Navy when this went into effect. When I joined it was they asked you lied. ( I was deeply in the closet and believe my own BS). If you got caught being gay, even in a gay bar, you would get thrown out. They would question and try to make you admit you knew when you joined. If you admitted that then they could try you for fraud, that could mean jail time. The “don’t ask” part kept you from going to jail, they would just throw you out without an honorable discharge, like they would if you got caught smoking pot. It was not a dishonorable discharge, that would really fuck up your life. It was a compromise with Clinton and the military. He had promised to open up the military leadership opposed it. So this was a solution no one liked. However it was better than jail.

Also it was originally “don’t ask, don’t tell, don’t pursue”. That don’t pursue part got dropped real quickly. If it would have been kept in I think we would have gotten full rights sooner.

DADT is misunderstood without some context.

During my time of cruising (which I still do) I have come across so many guys that are in forced marriages or a product of their time or even just living a lie that cruise for relief and to satisfy that part of themselves that wants to be with other men. I use to cruise because it was fun and I was curious, now I do it to help satisfy those that need that aspect of the culture just to feel better about their lives. I'm typing this and it makes me seem old af I'm only 28 lol.
