Give me some Advice on these Shelves | DIY

I think that looks great 🤷‍♀️ I like having a bigger gap on the bottom so I can put large heavy items or big decorative “bucket” bags (?) and shove stuff into those so it still looks tidy

Having the shelves line up with the mantle will help elongate the space a bit, and might make the fireplace look bit grander/focal.

Plus reducing to only 3 shelves will still leave plenty of space on the bottom for storage (I like the big space beneath for heavier items with easy access).

And to be totally honest- my family is moderatly tall but still can't easily access the top shelves, so unless you are dying to display knicknacks that will be hard to dust, the top shelf is no big loss. (Although knicknack storage is totally valid!)

The spacing looks great. I prefer a larger shelf on the bottom for items that are too tall or “weighty” for display on higher shelves.

I agree bottom space needs to be bigger to accommodate bigger things. Also agree with not matching that mantle. The shelving units need to stand alone!

If you want to feel aesthetically pleasing just put 3 racks and remove the top one from the rest it would help make the layout more spacy and tall .

Ignore the mantel. It is so far forward that whether it lines up or not will depend on where in the room your head is. How you arrange them should depend on how tall a cupboard you want at the bottom. Your lines look good to me 😊

If you do glass shelves you can do a puck light at the top and have a dramatic lighting effect

It looks great, i don't like shelves all the way to the ground, that bottom shelf is usually empty anyway

Actually I think it's perfect. I agree with the alignment because the top and bottom space though they may not be exact, are larger than the other spaces. I think it will be beautiful. Are you going to put in any light? Just curious.

What are you putting there? The top shelf could go up half a foot maybe, but even with the space in the bottom doesn't look bad as is
