Please watch: "The ONE Thing Every Christian Should Be Doing But Most Are NOT!"
Have you ever run out of things to pray for when someone asks you to pray for them? In this video I provide 10 things that every person needs prayer for.
How do you pray for someone who just says, “I need you to pray for me.” Today I want to introduce you to the BEST prayer that you could ever pray for anyone, at any time in any situation, no matter what.
In the NT book of Colossians 1 Paul prays this beautiful prayer for the church and you can use this same prayer as you pray for other people and I want to break this down into three categories. First of all you are praying for…
1. Wisdom
a. SCRIPTURE: “We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and understanding the Spirit gives.” So here you are praying that this person views life through the same lens that God views it and filters every decision through the wisdom found in the word of God.
i. Family – lead their families in a way that would honor God
ii. Finances – Make good decisions, good stewards, generous
iii. Friendships – Choose the right relationships, and have wisdom to know when to sever the wrong relationships
b. And so here you are praying that they would apply the WISDOM found in the word of God and that they would know very clearly what God’s WILL is for their life.
c. Intellectual and Experiential
2. Walk
a. Paul says here I’m praying “…that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please Him in every way…”
b. So here you’re praying that a person’s
i. CONDUCT (how they LIVE)
ii. CONVERSATION (how they TALK)
iii. CHARACTER (integrity) – be CONSISTENT with how Jesus lived His life. So you’re praying that there be no hypocrisy in their life. Here you’re praying that their private life match up with their public life.
c. How do you do that? Paul says by “increasing in the knowledge of God.” As we grow in our knowledge of God our CONDUCT, our CONVERSATION and our CHARACTER changes because now we are being CONVICTED by the word of God.
d. You’re praying that they would live their lives in such a way where others can emulate them and follow in their example.
e. SCRIPTURE: “…bearing fruit in every good work…”
3. Weaknesses
a. SCRIPTURE: “…being strengthened in all power…”
i. Physical weaknesses – physical illness,
ii. Emotional weaknesses (depression, anger, discouragement, loss of hope, low self-image)
iii. Spiritual weaknesses (temptation, if they are feeling and experiencing temptation in a given area where they feel weak and are prone to yield you pray for God’s power to strengthen them.
b. And to be even more specific you can pray that…“…may have great endurance and patience…”
i. Difficulty – Loss of a loved one, divorce, broken relationship, financial stress, loss of a job, wayward child, etc.
ii. Hardship
iii. Trial
c. Endurance – Greek word
d. God whatever trials they are facing right now I pray you give them the ability to endure and to remain steadfast up under the pressure of the situation.
So, I want to encourage you today to go out and pray this simple but effective prayer over the lives of your children, your spouse, your loved ones even your enemies. Make it a part of your daily prayer to pray that they would use WISDOM but not just any wisdom but WISDOM found in the word of God and that they would know God’s perfect will for their life. Second, pray for their walk (integrity, etc.). And finally pray for their weaknesses. We all have them and we all need prayer.
