Why PS3 Is Becoming Everyone's Favorite Console

Something I've noticed a lot in recent years is the appreciation for PlayStation 3 has grown tremendously amongst both enthusiasts and more casual consumers. But really this is a console with what would be considered more of a turbulent past. Despite that however, it seems the 'retro/nostalgia' factor is already kicking in for PS3. And moreover, it did live in a unique lifecycle where it was abnormally long, with full online connectivity. Between that, the excellent library, interesting history and more, let's talk about why so many are reflecting on PS3 more positively. If I had told myself that in 2006 I'd say you're lying, because back then this thing was the George Foreman Grill with no games. Look who's laughing now George.

When I got my PS3 at launch, it felt like getting a Mercedes.

I still think the PS3 graphics look decent 16 years later

My PS3 wasn't working 3 years ago and instead of getting it repaired I just shelved it and continued to play the 360, Switch and now the PS5. Never sold my PS3 games because they hold a special place in my heart. There are so many great titles on the console. I even own titles that you can't get on PS online or remastered releases.

A few weeks ago I decided to fix the PS3 myself. Didn't know whether it the dust, the fan or the disc laser (which could need replacing). I ordered a console security screw driver that can open the console up. It was an absolute mess. 12 years of collected dust. Oh boy I have not been good to by son.

I eventually cleaned it. Top to bottom with WD-40, a mini vac, wet wipes, and finished it off with an air duster spray. Put it back together again and tested it out with Infamous 2. It worked and I honestly almost cried. Not just because I can play my PS3 games again but because I did it all myself. I got 56 PS3 physical titles awaiting me and I couldn't be happier.

I think it’s also due to the fact that nowadays we’re being bombarded with live services and monetized games. Back then with the PS3 we were used to get value for our money. A game was playable, from beginning to the end and there wasn’t so much temptation to start spending more money after buying a game. So yes, to me that was the real era of true gaming.

Hell, one of the main things I loved about the ps3 was that the online play was completely free.

This has to be one of the most relaxing channels out there... no obnoxious intros or wacky hosts, just a dude talking about something we love. Any video of yours is all chill vibes, I wish more channels were like this. Thank you.

The PS3 is the only gaming system i can think of which people actually began to love after its time. Not based on nostalgia or anything of that kind, but simply because gamers now appreciate the variety of games it has which they were either previously oblivious or ignorant of.

The console that made me understand the expression "Play Station": a place where I could play anything, from classic PS1 games and indies to the newest AAA titles, be it physical or digital media. Definitely my favorite Sony console.

I'm 34, born in 87 and I can safely say the PS1-PS2 era is by far my favourite. These were the consoles I played on during my senior school years. PS3 came out around the time I got my first job, so I still have fond memories of it but the gulf between PS1-PS2 and other consoles in terms of fond memories and the game catalogue is pretty massive for me.

Quick story...My best friend ended up getting a PS3 very early on after its release. He was pretty well off because his parents made good money. He was also the first person I knew to have a flat screen tv, which I believe at that time a 32 inch tv was around a $1000, so pretty expensive for the mid-2000s. We were both 22 at the time of the PS3's release so of course we had to get one. Anyways, I remember seeing it for the first time and was blown away. The clarity and quality of the picture was outstanding, the graphics were out of this world, and it played blu rays. Unfortunately, I had to wait until my birthday in August the next year to gather up enough money to get my own. At last, it happened, my very own PS3 (which I still own to this day). I still remember getting it out of the box and setting it up. The funniest part though, I tried to plug it into my old box tv. I plugged it in and couldnt figure out why the quality was so bad. I noticed this cord, which was called an HDMI, and I had no idea what it was or how you use it. I had to call my friend. Once he told me what an HDMI was, I had to convince my dad that I needed to get a flat screen tv in order to play my PS3. Anyways....It's funny how technology can help bring back all those amazing memories like the first time seeing and playing a PS3, and afterwards purchasing a PS3 and my first flat screen tv (which was a 26 inch btw). If anyone who reads this comment has a PS3 story, comment below, would love to read it!! Thanks for the video!!

I loved the PS3 because it truly felt like an all-in-one home console. The XMB UI was phenomenal. You could rip music straight to the drive, store movies on it, and of course, playing the games and Blu Ray. Looking at the PS4 and PS5, aside from obvious technical advancements, they’re lacking in comparison.

It's interesting how the ps3 was released even earlier than the first iPhone

My kids grew up with the ps3 being their main console. Due to them usually being on it, I never played it much. Now they’re grown and the ps3 is all mine. I’ve been going back and playing all the games I can find and I’m constantly amazed of how good it actually was for the time.

I’ve never really stopped to think about it but I would have to say that the PS3 is my all time favorite console. I was in my mid 20s with just the right mix of free time and expendable income. It was me and my eventual wife’s media player and a so many great memories are tied to it.

PS3 had the best games. Games actually tried to be different and unique. Games today are just redos of what’s been done before only the old games were better. There’s also not as much diversity in games today. PS3 actually had good racing games as well. Some of the best games were on PS3. The ufc game was also better on PS3.

At the time it was 'modern' and the norm, now the nostalgia is growing like anything else
