After being a courtesy clerk for almost 2 years, I turn 18 and become a cashier! I’m still learning everyday and getting better step by step. Let me know if you guys are getting into it too! It’s actually simpler than it seems at first😄

Comment any advice or questions you have!

Full time cashier here and just a suggestion… after putting the cash in your till, count back the change out loud back to the customer. Example: the order is $15.76 and customer gives you a $20.00 bill… take the receipt and say ok that is 16, 17, 18 19 and $20… Thank you sir or ma’am and you’ll never be short! And always remember to say “Have a nice day”

People say cashiers are the worst underpaying jobs. But what those people don’t know is being a cashier you are gaining TRUST with the company and more likely to land a higher paying job later.

I have been a cashier for about a month and I love it. I was left alone the first week, and I have done some mistakes, but I have learnt from them and I am great now.
The only problem is the boredom when the day is slow.

Dont put the money in the drawer untill you have given the change. You can get serious ripped of by someone claiming they gave you a $50 when they really have you S $20. And you have no way to notice otherwise.

I've been a cashier for three months and I'm leaving next week, I just don't like it. I don't like dealing with people 10 hours a day. It also gets very tedious. I'd rather do work where I'm mostly left alone and where I'm actually moving around doing something. Even if its more physically demanding I don't care

I love the notebook idea. I am a beginner cashier and sometimes I've struggled to know the codes too and I'll ask for help but for the most part i's pretty easy because they is a product lookup on the cash register to help you find certain items.

I just started a cashier role as a volunteer.

I must say that you're right about everything. The time, code, and change.

I’m here because I’m courtesy clerk and interested in being cashier ever since a cashier I worked with sparked the idea. She says it’s easy

Tomorrow is my first day as a cashier in a Toy Shop. I don't think I'll have to worry as much with codes since everything is in a box, BUT, I have ADHD and Dyscalculia, and that basically means numbers make no sense for my brain, they confuse me SO MUCH. Gotta check many times and I still get the math wrong all the time, so, having to be on charge or MONEY of a company is terryfying, but I know there's training and I just gotta be chill and use a damn calculator and I'll be fine. I initially wanted apply to be a sales person, but I'm disabled and its my first time working, so I thought having to walk around would be very demanding for a body that already hurts a lot on their own wihtout me putting too much effort in it.

It’s not fun many old people like over 80 come in with sunken eyes and stare at me when I ask them how their day is and if they want something in a bag. Then they just leave.
