Charlie Parr plays The Old Guitar

Charlie Parr plays a Bukka White tune called "Fixin' To Die" on The Old Guitar.

We were sitting with Charlie inside Café Nine in New Haven; alone except for the bartender prepping for the evening ahead.
It was fairly early in the afternoon, and Café Nine just has a couple windows, so there were a few sunlit spots in the room. Charlie pulled up a chair to one of these lighter areas right in front of the bar’s old cigarette machine, produced a metal slide from his pocket and strummed a couple chords on The Old Guitar while we got the cameras in place. We started recording, and he tore into a downright haunting rendition of bluesman Bukka White’s “Fixin’ to Die”.
For those five minutes, Charlie took us back to the 1930’s, sitting on a sharecropper’s front porch deep in cotton country. Or maybe it was a living room in the dead of Winter in his native Minnesota, I really couldn’t tell. But Charlie’s music took us somewhere else.

This is probably the only footage you’ll ever see of Charlie playing a 6 string acoustic. He only plays 6 strings on his resonators and all his acoustics are 12 string. Super mellow sound. Folks might not realize what a gem this is

Charlie takes you places. He has a degree in philosophy, so he is a storytelling philosopher that uses wonderful music to make his point.
